USE
WILL
2. Use definitely, certainly, probably and possibly to show how certain or uncertain of the
expected event.
Ex. I’ll give you back the money this Monday, I promise.
Ex. Will I open the door for you? / Shall I open the door for you?
7. Use ‘will’ to make an instant decision in a situation. (You didn’t plan in advance.)
Ex. Where do you want to g after class? - I think I’ll go home. I don’t feel well.
GOING TO
1. Use ‘going to’ to talk about something that is expected to happen. (prediction)
3. Use ‘going to’ to predict the future, especially the situation that has already started to
happen.

4. Use ‘going to’ to make a decision with a result of distant future, not instant as ‘will’.
Ex. We’ve decided where to spend our honeymoon trip next year. We’re going to stay
at Maldives for a week.
Note
1. We also use ‘present continuous’ to talk about future arrangement which is definitely
fixed. It’s usually with a time reference such as next week, next Tuesday, etc.
Ex. He is moving to Belgium next week. (He has already bought the plane ticket.)
2. We also use ‘present simple’ to talk about future events that are definitely on schedule.
Ex. The first subway from Bang Sue to Hua Lamphong station leaves at 6 o’clock
every day.
3. We also used ‘shall’ in a formal speech or writing with I/We.
This time clause can come wither at the beginning of the sentence or in the second part of the
sentence. This kind of sentence refers to the future, the verb that follows these time words or
phrases is Present Simple and the main verb is a will-future form.
Ex. By the time we reach the airport, his plane will depart.

1. Use Future Perfect to express an activity that will be completed before another time or
event in the future. In other words, it is to look back from the future to an earlier event, often
with by or by the time.
Ex. By the time we reach home, mom will have already prepared the meal.
