CAN – Gateway Functions

The CAN-Gateway is responsible for the controlling of the transfer gearbox and mediator between
SAE J1939 and ZF 6HP Proprietary CAN protocols.

In detail, the electronic control unit CAN-Gateway and Transfer Gearbox Control EST146 (TG-ECU)
provides the following functionalities :

• Translating 11bit-standard CAN protocol (ZF 6HP-Proprietary-CAN) to 29bit-extended CAN

protocol (SAE J1939) and vice versa
• acquiring TG range change requests for the transfer gearbox and control it accordingly
• transmitting transfer gearbox status via CAN
• applying a switching strategy in case of erratic switching of transfer gears
• monitoring of transmission oil temperature and control the fan accordingly
• monitoring of oil temperature right before oil cooler (for “hotmode” control in transmission
ECU)
• control status and warning lamps
• supporting on- and offboard diagnosis
