ADAPTANCY PLATFORM

The Adaptancy Platform is our chosen platform for the island of Boracay because

this platform acknowledged the negative impacts of mass tourism and it also

emphasizes the negative impacts tourism brings can be minimized through this

platform. This Adaptancy Platform works best for our chosen destination because as an

island that most of the local people and the biggest contribution in the Gross Domestic

Product of the Local Government Unit is from the tourism industry we cannot says that

tourism has only positive impacts for the development of the island but it has always a

negative impact brought by it. That is in order to minimize the negative impacts brought

by the tourism in the island and the history will never repeat again on the closure of

Boracay Island that cause massive impact to the livelihood and jobs of all people living

and working there. We proposed an alternative tourism or the anti-thesis of mass

tourism in the island:

1. Environmentally–Oriented Tourism - this means to enhance the welfare of the

environment, such as eco – tourism and green tourism. This is some of our

proposed project for the island.

 Luxury Hotel in the island should try to have a solar powered in their

vicinity. The resort can runs on 100% solar power, equipped with rainwater

capture and its own onsite water-filtration site to eliminate the use of

single-use plastic bottles and it aims to be as low-waste as possible.

 Be G.R.E.E.N. (Guard, Respect, Educate Boracay) it is a training program

that should trains all people in the island on: ecological waste

management; water, energy, and biodiversity conservation; and

environmental laws

 Sewerage Treatment Plant that can operates a state-of-the-art sewage

treatment plant (STP) combined with native reed bed filters. This ensures

that no raw sewage and grey water are discharged into sea. Treated water

is utilized in flushing toilets, watering the plants, and supplying fire

hydrants. This directly reduces consumption of water, which otherwise

have to be produced through energy-intensive desalination processes or

sourced in the island’s water sources.

2. Socially-Oriented Tourism – this refers to the form of tourism that enhances the

welfare of the society, such as community – based tourism and volunteer

tourism. This is some of our proposed plan for this kind of tourism for the island.

 The island of Boracay can also try this principle which is called as the

“high value, low impact” for international tourists it can be achieved by

enforcing strict entry requirements and a daily visitor tariff. The daily tariff

includes necessary expenses for the visit such as accommodation, a

licensed tour guide, meals and hiking equipment. A large portion of the

tariff, however, is used to maintain and develop the island’s infrastructure,

as well as contribute towards Boracay free health care and education.

 If most of the Tour Operator in the island or not in the island but in the

whole country can practice the “Conservation Volunteering” which is they

will advocates for more responsible travel decisions through online content

and organising sustainable and ethical holiday packages. One such

package offers individuals the opportunity to volunteer at a conservation

organisation in the island.
