Video 1-Baseline Video Reflection

Addressing Standard 1, Student Development

What went well:

1. Providing the options to students to choose the way the like to learn
either by playing the game or use the website which was shared on
ManageBac is a strength. It reals the standard 1 as students grow and
develop in different ways. The patterns of learning and development
vary individually as some of them like to explore by themselves, some
like to look at others’ demonstration and some like to ask the teacher to
offer support. Students are making effort in their learning of their own
selection the way to finish the task.
2. This is a student-centered classroom, and the teacher is just like the
facilitator or supporter wondering around to offer help. Students feel safe
in the classroom, and they are actively interacting with the teacher and
with each other.
3. The structure of the class is good with a starter and then elicit the lesson
objective and then main activity as well as the exit ticket.

Areas need to improve as well as what I will change if teach the lesson again:

1. Learning environment: I will need to reinforce the classroom routines and

expectations as a few students are not focused and sometimes distract the
others. These few students are kind of waiting for the teacher to tell them what
to and need the teacher to push them to do the work all the time. I will need to
develop a feasible routine so that students take the responsibility of their
learning. And they know what to do at the time they enter the classroom.
2. Learning content: I will need to be more mindful about the selection of content
which I am going to teach. According to the standard, students only need to
learn the main organelles which can be seen under a light microscope, but in
the game, it covers much more than the main organelles which is not age-
approriate for G6.
3. Group work: Instead of 4 students in a group, it would be better to have
students work in pairs with one HL and one LL/ESL learners as it is more
practical for 2 students to look at the screen to discuss how to play the game
and how to finish the worksheet.

I do not feel I need to reteach this lesson, but I will need to revisit the main organelles
of animal cells which is required in the standard when I am teaching the further
lessons about the similarities and differences of animal cells and plant cells. By then, I
will use the strategy of Venn Diagram to revist the animal cell organelles as well as
comparing them to plant cells. So that in the lesson, students can reinforce the prior
knowledge acquisition and deepen it to the compare of animal and plant cells.

My video demonstrate how I met most of the elements of Standard 1. However, I

think to demonstrate all the elements fully and effectively in standard 1 in the teaching
video, I still have a long way to go. For example, to implement developmentally
appropriate instruction that is challenging and achievable to meet the cognitive,
linguistic, social, emotional, and physical needs of learners, through my interaction
with individual student in guiding them to learn, I am implementing developmentally
appropriate instructions which is challenging and achievable. However, to meet the
cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical needs of learners, I think it needs
to be achieved by a variety of interactions not only between the teacher and students
by also between students.
