The Caucasian Chalk Circle
The Caucasian Chalk Circle
The Caucasian Chalk Circle tells a story about what happens when the law
clashes with justice and inquires about who is correct and who is incorrect in
complex situations. A Narrative introduces the concept that things should be
given to those who deserve them. will look after them while two farms fight over
ownership of a valley.
The plot of the play begins with an uprising in Grusinia , when Governor
Abashvili is deposed and executed, Natella, his wife, flees the new regime,
leaving her infant behind. Michael, his son, was left behind. Grusha, a palace
kitchen maid, steals the child away so that it does not end up in the hands other
new government.
The story poses many questions about the complexities and moral decisions in
relation to raising a child and also how families can be broken by conflict,
jealousy and greed.
