INTRO TO DRAMA ( RADIO AND THEATER )

- in far places, The only recreation for some Filipinos is Radio drama.
- radio dramas came from the listeners.
- every drama actor / actress must have at least (5) five different voices.
- Sound effects are done by various voices and voice actors.
- Radio works magically through the power of imagination.

WORKS OF SHAKESPEARE

William Shakespeare was one of the greatest writers in English.


He started writing tragedies because he thought tragedies of other English writers looked
purpose and form.

He had written more than 10 tragedies, all involve

King Lear – old man who dropped into madness and blindness to the truth about his daughters.
Othello – Moor who is victimized by his love with Desdemona
Hamlet – Emotionally scarred young man trying to avenge his father’s death, his uncle poisoned
the king in order to get the throne and Gertude (his mother).
Macbeth – Story begins with three witches who tell that he will soon become king [ H presents
human flaws such as greed and deception]
Julius Caesar – roman dictator who was assassinated by his conspirators.
Characteristics of William ~ if you’re biting your tongue it
-his fan of insof means you’re declaring war.
-the reasons why he uses dialogues or if their the one who’s biting
=to set the mood of the scenes your answer should be “go” “yes”
=give more atmosphere
=develop relationship of the characters.
HOW TO WRITE A ONE-ACT PLAY
-like the short story
simpler plot
fewer speaking characters
limited location
a shorter timespan
How to start to write play
1.) read up ( read and watch play )
2.) Say what
~it will generally determine your plot and the characters and the conflict of the play.
3.) The who ( come up with a main character)
~Identify the characters and their parts in the story
4.)What for
~the main character should have an objective to pursue during the course of the play. This will
give your story that much-needed direction and unity of purpose.
5.) And then
~there should be suspense.
~conflict is not always about fight or violence, simply an obstacle that the main character faces.
6.) Write it
~allow your imagination and creativity free rein
~tighten up the story so that the play is brief
~complete
~concise but sufficient
7.) The end
~polish your story
~now dialogue can be sharpened
