Practice Plan

Problem(s) encountered during previous games:

Today’s Practice focus: offensive/defensive

Skill Activities: Organization: 40 min segment

1. “Alleys” (10 mins)


- cones are set up either side of the court lane line extended.
- This drill helps focus on our defensive and offensive game. Students will pair up, the offensive
player is attempting to score on the opposite end that he/she starts on but must stay in the “alley”
that is created by the cones and sideline.
- The defender is trying to turn the defender as much as possible to slow them down. If the defender
steals the ball, they will hand the ball back to the offense and proceed. Down the other end of the
floor offense and defense switch. (10 mins)

2. “Olympic shooting” (10 mins)

- There will be two teams, one of four and one of three. The game will be played in 2-minute
intervals. This drill helps improve our ability to catch and shoot efficiently.
- Each team will have one less ball than the number of players so: team of four = 3 balls, team of
three = 2 balls
- Once the timer starts the players with a ball will shoot, go get their own rebound and pass the
ball to the open player that has no ball. After passing to their teammate players will spot up and
get ready to receive a pass to shoot.
- Players will count made baskets out loud
- At the end of two minutes the losing team will run two down and backs.
- Repeat 3-5 times.

3. “Corners” (5-7 mins)


- Offensive play, good for 5 out (if Austin is subbed out)
- Ball starts at the top of the key, whichever way they dribble the first person on perimeter cuts
the basket the second loops.

4. Post/Guard work (10-12 mins)


Post: gage/Austin:
- Drop step – drop middle – up and under – sugar hill – high post dive
Guard: Ethan/Leshon/Ashley/Collin/Lilly
- Basic 5 (crossover, in n out, between the legs, behind the back (if applicable) player can stay at
the level they feel comfortable with)
- Partner shooting (shot fake dribble pull up)
