• Bayer was founded as a textile company in
1863 in Leverkusen, Germany.
• It was founded by Friedrich Bayer and his
partner, Johann Friedrich Weskott.
• Initially manufactured and sold synthetic
dyes, later diversified into pharmaceuticals
• later they launched Aspirin in 1899 which
is now dubbed as "Drug of the Century".

Bayer announced its intention to acquire Monsanto in May
2016 and formally announced the deal for $128 per share
in September 2016. The deal corresponds to a total cost of
approximately $63 billion taking into account Monsanto’s debt.
