LESSON
OBJECTIVES
Define soil and understand the importance of
soil.
Be familiar the two common soils

Know the type of Soil

SOIL
is a complex, natural mixture of minerals, organic matter, water, air,
and countless organisms that forms a thin layer over the Earth's
surface, and provides a critical foundation for plant growth and many
other ecosystem services.
SOIL
The study of soil called Pedology.
A soil can be describe in terms of its soil profile. The profile is
divided into layers called Horizons.

Soil Classification

Soil Composition
SOIL CREEP
is a slow, downhill movement of soil or rock
fragments, typically caused by gravity, that can
cause soil to slowly shift and move over time.

Example
SOIL DEPLETION
refers to the loss or reduction of nutrients, organic
matter, and other vital elements that are essential for
healthy and productive soil.

Example
SOIL EROSION
is the process by which soil is moved or worn away by
wind, water, or other natural forces, often as a result of
human activities such as deforestation or agriculture.

Example
DESERTIFICATION
Spread of desert by changes in climate, or by
human-aided processes.

Example
SOIL CLASSIFICATION
the process of grouping soils based on their
properties and characteristics to better understand
their potential uses and behavior, and to facilitate
communication among scientists and land managers.

Example
SOIL COMPOSITION
refers to the physical and chemical makeup
of soil, including the proportions of different
mineral particles (such as sand, silt, and
clay), organic matter, water, and air.
