1. Describe the palmar spaces of the hand, and any communication with the forearm

Mid palmar space

Location; medial half of the hollow space of the palm. Extents; Proximally to the distal aspect

of the flexor retinaculum, distally to the distal palmar crease. Boundaries; Anteriorly is

palmar aponeurosis and flexor tendons of the middle 3 digits, medially; medial palmar side

septum, laterally; intermediate palmar septum, posteriorly; interossei and middle 3

metacarpals. Communicates proximally with the forearm space of parona and distally with

the 3 webbed spaces

Thenar space

Location; outer half of the hollow of the palm .Extents; proximally to the flexor retinaculum

and distally to the distally to the proximal transversal palmar crease .Boundaries; anterior is

palmar aponeurosis and flexor tendon of the index finger, tendon of flexor pollicis

longus ,Posterior; fascia covering the adductor pollicis ,Lateral; lateral palmar

septum ,Medial; intermediate palmar septum .Communicates with the first web space

through the 1st lumbrical canal

A subcutaneous space on the palmar aspect on the tips of the digits Filled with subcutaneous

fatty tissues divided into compartments by the numerous fibrous septa which extend from

skin to distal phalanx Boundaries; anterior is bounded by the skin and superficial fascia ,

posterior distal 2/3rd of the distal phalanx

2. State any clinical significance of the question above; Infection of the pulp spaces whitlow
