Nori Jayne Cosa Rubis SBENT-3B

After watching the video and reading the piece, draw a visual
image of the poem according to your understanding. Make sure
to make it visible.

When I watched and read Maya Angelou's poem Still I Rise, one of the things that struck me
the most was the resilience of a person who, despite the fact that many people hurt, discriminate
and did bad things to her, kept going to survive and continue in life. Based on what I've draw, you'll
notice in the middle a woman who will show her muscle where I flexing her brave, and those
around her are those who ignore the bad deeds of other people who keep bringing her down to
give up on life, such as those who whisper and talk about things that aren't their problems, the
same with the people we don't expect to be the ones who destroy us behind our backs, then with
the people who are proud of us even though we aren't really proud, and also one thing that will
show us stability is that no matter what hurtful words are thrown at us, we will continue to smile
and ignore it, then one of the things I have learned is the different bodies of women because
nowadays there is a lot of body shaming that should not be done or talked about. And the last
thing I draw is an alarm clock to show that whatever bad words or insults they hear or receive do
not affect them and that all they need to do is sleep to strengthen, productive and be ready for
life's challenges, as stated in the last stanza.
State at least five (5) lines in the poem that stands out in you and
explain why.

But still, like dust, I'll rise. (1st stanza, 4th line)

I chose this for the first line because it represents the lines of courage that no matter
what happens in life, we must get up and continue, not be affected by everything we
do. Like what happened to me, I'm not sure what they want from me, but they're doing
things that will harm other people just to appear innocent, even though they're the
ones who have done bad things to me and I've kept quiet so I don't grow up. It's a
mess, but I'll show that I can prove that what they're accusing me of is untrue.

Does my haughtiness offend you? (5th stanza, 1st line)

This line demonstrates that not all of us are kind daily, I know we all have fullness and
not every opportunity will be given to you, I don't want to be bad but if I know that what
you are doing to me is not right, I won't know what words will come out of my mouth,
so I am trying my best to be patient as long as I can because I know myself that I will
fight until what is the right method.

You may shoot me with your words, (6th stanza, 1st line)

This tells that negative words will never have an impact on the lives of those who hear
them. I will not allow anyone to speak to me, especially if they have nothing to
contribute to my life, and I will ensure them that I cannot simply be oppressed; if I can
fight, I will fight.

Does my sexiness upset you? (7th stanza, 1st line)

This line is particularly relevant to women who are body shamed, such as me, and are
constantly told that "you're beautiful when you lose weight," "you're fat and then your
waist is small," and "you're so fat". Yes, you have a point however, It is important to be
true to or to be who you are and love yourself because no one is born perfect, but we
must understand the concept of respect.

I rise. (9th stanza, 9th line)

This proves that whatever happens, whether good or bad, we must accept it because it
is a part of our lives and it is up to us whether it affects us or not, but we must always
remember that in all the trials that come our way, we must be strong and not give up
right away because everything has answers to solve our problem in life.
