TASK 2.

2: Extend your project

proposal

Due Date: 16 March 2023, 2pm

Task 2.2: Extend your proposal into a comprehensive project plan

Review on the feedback you received from the mid module review; you will have received lots of
input from your peers and tutors about ways of developing your work into a resolved outcome.

Reflect on the feedback you’ve received so far and consider on how you can develop from your initial
ambitions. Use this extended project proposal as a planning document to help you to identify the
necessary materials and preparation time needed to develop your work.

You can complete this form, save it as a PDF and upload this onto your Weebly site.

1. What are your creative interests?

Reflect on your learning in this module so far and consider how your creative interests have
developed. How have the projects and processes developed your thinking and making?

I have always been a painter, but during this module I feel I have become really in touch with
collaging and mixed media art specifically. I feel these allow me to express myself in a physical
format, compared to working digitally which I have realised does not gain my interest half as
much. I love how with collage I am able to create work with a surrealist feel to it. I am able to
capture a feeling or an essence in a way that my technical painting skills does not allow, therefore
expanding my abilities to communicate with myself and the viewer. Not only this, I have really
enjoyed scouting out materials that can be used for collage.

One aspect of my mid module review feedback was that I am able to work in a very open-minded
manner. I have taken this forward with me as I want to be able to expand both my knowledge and
skills to be best of my ability whilst creating in a way that satisfies my artistic needs.

Part of my feedback also highlighted that the work I have produced so far has a very personal feel
to it. I have kept this in mind and delved even more into myself so that I can keep that momentum
going with my work. I am now also going to be incorporating aspects of myself that maybe I
wouldn’t have liked to share as much in the past, such as addiction. I will tie this in with the idea
of time and those missing pieces of childhood, and how this can be the result of an unfulfilled
childhood.
2. Reflect on the feedback from the mid module review, what are the emerging themes,
concepts and questions.

Use this section to talk about the meaning of this project for you at this stage; what are
your themes and ideas? What feedback that you’ve had on your project work from peers
and tutors?

Which artists, designers, films, books, filmmakers, photographers have been suggested to
you to follow up? How do these references inspire and push forward your own work?

Initially I wanted to create a clock with 12 pieces of memorabilia that represented missing pieces
of self or my childhood. However, as my thinking and ideas have expanded in line, I have realised
after talking to my tutor that the physical aspects of what I want to create are not necessarily that
achievable at this time in my current making process. The skills I have to create such a work do
not quite acquire to where I need them to be. I initially wanted to work with wood and Perspex to
create my final piece, however I do not know how or where to cut wood or Perspex. I have
created cardboard prototypes, layering them together which I have realised is perhaps again out
of my skill set.

To move on from this, I will still be working with my idea but presenting it in a different format. I
will be bringing 3D elements into a 2D format, working with canvas and the layering of canvases
to convey my message. I am a lot more comfortable with this, as being a painter this is a material I
very often work with.

Research wise, I am very interested in the works of Huntervasser, an Austrian artist that created a
lot of work relating to a child-like state, often drawing inspiration from his dreams. As my piece is
heavily centred around the movement away from childhood and time lost, one aspect of time that
seems to stay the same is our perception of it in our dreams. I would like to incorporate this idea
into my piece as I am very heavily interested in the dream process.

I am also really interested in Robert Rauschenberg and his material process. I feel very inspired by
the way he uses mixed media to bring a 3D feel to his work. One of his pieces in particular has
inspired me to perhaps stack a few canvases on top of one another, creating a stand. This is not a
final idea but is something I am going to explore for my final piece.
3. What materials or tools do you need to source, arrange or learn to create a wider body of
focused work and exploration?

Identify and organise the materials you need to source, digital tools or resources to arrange and
learn?

How can you improve your sense of creative resilience and productivity? How can you create
ways to better organise your workload and time management to fulfil your potential?

For this project I need to acquire a certain amount of personal memorabilia – I am quite a
sentimental person and so I have kept a range of items from my childhood and onwards, some of
which I’d be happy to use in my final piece; tickets, receipts, art etc.

Other than this, I will be going to charity shops and looking for bits and bobs that I will incorporate
into my work, as long as it has some kind of personal feel that resonates with me.

I now know for certain that I won’t be working with wood as my main body of material as I don’t
have the skills needed to carve and mould it in the way I’d need to. However, I’d still like to
incorporate it; perhaps I will create work on wood and layer that upon my canvas, which will bring
that 3D element into the work. I will be working primarily on canvas, perhaps a few which I will
merge together with glue. I may layer canvases on one another, same as with the wood. I will also
be using collage heavily within this piece.

My next steps are to find some good resources for this piece. As collage will be a big element to
this piece, I will scour the books in the library for images and text that I can photocopy. I will also
be looking around charity shops for books with a lot of imagery that I can incorporate. I will also
look out for free magazines, newspapers, and anything with text that I can utilise for my work.

In terms of improving my create resilience and productivity, I need to keep on top of the work by
making sure I’m attending uni, asking for help when I need it, and also creating a wider body of
experimentation. As an artist, my usual process is to just create without so much planning, so this
has been an element I have struggled with a bit this module. However, the planning has also
allowed me think and change a few things about my piece which has been useful, so I will take
this skill forward in the future.

I tend to leave things very last minute, I’m not sure why as it stresses me out so in terms of time
management I need to make sure I am regularly completing small parts of the process so that I
don’t need to do everything all at once. I have created a checklist of things that I need to
complete, so that I can see my process building.
My potential planned outcome is best described as…(tick the most appropriate)

4. You will be submitting your Module 2 on the 16 March, 2pm. To help you work towards this
deadline in an organised way, you will need to set yourself weekly goals.

What do you need to achieve on a weekly basis to ensure you execute a lively body of thematic
experimentation?

Make a weekly plan below. What will you work on a weekly basis? What project resources do you
need? What health and safety considerations do you need to take on board?

Week 8 Goals:

For week 8 I need to hone in on artist research, drawing inspiration for a range of artists that I can
use in my work. I also need to do lots of reading around time and how our perception of time
alters from a child to adult perspective. I also need to finish my film acquisition task and upload
this and any other work completed onto weebly.

Week 9 Goals:

I need to explore potential material processes and see what will work best for my final piece. To
do this, I will create a range of prototypes using cardboard, exploring design and structure which
will allow me to see what is the most feasible. I will also build on my body of work, practicing
collage with a range of materials. I will explore composition, colour schemes and materials that I
think will give the best desired outcome. I will keep up to date with weebly, gradually uploading
each piece of my practice.

Week 10 Submission:

I will make sure that I have completed all of my weebly reflections as this is one thing I tend to fall
behind on. I will also expand my prototypes and material usage to give me the best insight into
what I will need to acquire to work with during the final six weeks of the next module, giving me a
head start. I will continue artist research, and also research on inner child healing, looking at
mindfulness and how this can alter time. I will also be making some more collages and drawings
that I can potentially use within the final collage. I will be creating some psychedelic based
drawings as this can also change our perception of time. I will also build some sketch ideas of my
final piece and how these layered canvases can potentially look. At the end of all of this, I will
make sure everything is uploaded to weebly.
