1. INTRODUCTION

McDonald's is a global fast food company that has had a significant impact on the
world. Founded in 1940, McDonald's has grown to become one of the largest and
most recognizable brands in the world, with over 38,000 locations in more than 100
countries. The company is best known for its burgers, fries, and other fast food
offerings, which have become a staple of modern diets around the world.

While McDonald's has been successful in its business endeavors, it has also faced
criticism and controversy over the years. Some have argued that the company's fast
food offerings contribute to health problems, such as obesity and heart disease. Others
have raised concerns about the company's environmental impact, such as the use of
packaging materials and the carbon emissions associated with food production and
transportation.

2. PROBLEMS ?

McDonald’s is one of the biggest multinational fast food chains. McDonald's Makes
Over $75,000,000 Per Day. Over 60 million customers visit McDonald’s every
day. Every year McDonald’s spends a big amount of money for sustainability Such as
Antibiotics Policies, A Global Commitment to Sustainable Beef, Pride in Preparation,
Back to Basics, Commitment to Cage-Free Eggs, Commitment to Sustainably
Sourced Coffee, Sustainability at Sea and so on. But at that stage of our existence we
are ready to introduce you our main and global idea for the next 5 year for no more
using a paper in your pocket.

Maybe it’s too little by seeing people have a receipt once they get the order yet we
have to investigate what exactly happened for the past 78 years. One receipt in
McDonald's has 44 cm, then for 22 persons we need 1 km of paper. For 60 million
customers we need approximately 2.800.000 km of paper just for one day and we
cannot take it for granted.

Do you know what is the main ingredient of that receipt? Checks are printed on
thermal paper. Paint for this is not necessary, the text appears on it due to heating.
This is convenient, as it does not require to fill the printing mechanisms with dyes,
consumable material one - paper. But, thermal paper coating contains BPA bisphenol
(BPA) and its analogue bisphenol S (BPS). These substances are toxic and dangerous
to health. 

On the other hand, a cashier’s checks are not accepted for processing: besides the fact
that there is little cellulose in thermal paper and the output of recycled material from it
is very low, it can contaminate the rest of the waste paper with toxins. That is why it
is not only useless to give cheques in waste paper, but also harmful.
  

3. WHAT WILL CHANGE ?

We are excited to announce that McDonald's is taking another step towards reducing
waste and promoting sustainability by eliminating paper receipts at our restaurants.
This move is part of our ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility and
reducing our environmental footprint.

By eliminating paper receipts, we hope to significantly reduce the amount of paper


waste generated by our restaurants worldwide. We estimate that we currently generate
millions of paper receipts every day, and we believe that by shifting to digital receipts,
we can help make a real difference for the environment.

believe that the benefits of going paperless are significant. Digital receipts are not
only more eco-friendly, but they also offer a more convenient and streamlined
experience for our customers.

4. WHAT CUSTOMERS WILL GET ?

Customers who visit McDonald's restaurants will no longer receive paper receipts
after placing their orders. Instead, they will have the option to receive a digital receipt
via email or through the McDonald's mobile app. Customers who provide their email
address or opt-in to receive receipts through the mobile app will be able to access
their receipts online or through their mobile devices, making it a more convenient and
eco-friendly option.

What is more exciting is customers can collect points and redeem it as a free snack
order in McCoffee. Moreover, we add the gamification to the apps. After 20 receipt
scans the customers have one time chance to play daily spin to get a free gift that they
can claim in every McDonalds branch.

To maintain the sustainability of this campaign, each customer can invite other
customers to join this campaign by providing them a unique code, and each 5
successful invitations the customer will get one free daily spin ticket.

Well, this campaign needs a major scale of cooperation in every McDonalds branch
world wide.

5. THE IMPACT

Eliminating paper receipts at McDonald's restaurants is a significant step towards


reducing the environmental impact of the fast-food industry. By going paperless,
McDonald's can reduce the amount of paper waste generated by its restaurants
worldwide. This, in turn, can help to reduce the amount of trees and energy used in
paper production, as well as the carbon emissions generated by the disposal of paper
waste in landfills. Moreover, no more dangerous toxic materials and harmful waste
because of BPA and BPS.

customers who choose to receive their receipts digitally. Hence, the campaign needs
to be implemented on a worldwide scale.
