At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

A. Explain how sound propagated through different media;

B. Perform an experiment that is related to sound; and

C. Appreciate the importance of sound in our daily lives.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Propagation of Sound(S8FE-Ie-24)

B. References: K to 12 Curriculum Guide Science, Science Grade 8 Learner’s Manual

and Teacher’s Guide
C. Materials: Visual aid, PowerPoint presentation, Laptop

D. Values: Awareness

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Preliminaries
 Cleanliness and Orderliness

Good morning everyone, before we start

our class, kindly arranged your chairs and
pick up any pieces of garbage on the floor
and please remove your bag in the table
and place it at the back at the same time (Students will arranged their chairs and
organize yourselves. pick up any pieces of garbage under their
table and chair)

If you are done please remain standing

and let us start our class with a prayer,
who would like to lead the prayer? (Verna is raising her hand)

Yes Verna, you’re raising your hand. (Our gracious and heavenly Father, we
thank you for this another day that you’ve
given to us. And please God let your Holy
Spirit to be with us today as we start our
class and give us the knowledge and
wisdom as we go on through our lesson.
This all I ask through Christ our Lord,
Amen.)
In the Name of the Father and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Good morning once again, praised be

Jesus and Mary!
Good morning ma’am, Now and Forever!

You may now take your sit.

 Attendance
Before anything else, may I check your
attendance, so who are absent today? None ma’am

Very good! We have a perfect attendance

today and it is nice to hear that all are
present today. Keep it up!

So now, before we proceed to our lesson

this morning, I want you to be mindful and
please follow these classroom rules:
1. Don’t ever distract the class during
lessons
2. Be respectful to everyone
3. If you have any
questions/clarifications, just raise
your hand and;
4. Be attentive to your teacher during
class hour

Okay with regards to our classroom rules,

who would like to add or suggest some
rules that you think can help our classroom (Rhona is raising her hand)
to be harmonious and organize? Anyone?

Listen and be quiet when someone is

Yes Rhona, you’re raising your hand talking in front.

(Jesa is raising her hand)

Thank you Rhona for your suggestion,
what else?
Be more cooperative during activities.
Yes Jesa, you’re raising your hand

Thank you Jesa, that’s quite a good

suggestion, by the way.

Alright thank you class for your Yes ma’am

suggestions so enough for that. I hope it is
all clear to everybody our classroom rules.

We are all feeling good ma’am

A. Drill
So, how are you class? Are you all feeling
good?
Yes ma’am
Nice to hear that
Okay so are you ready for another learning
discovery?
Well it seems like you are ready, so I have
here a game called “Guess the Sound”
and I want every one of you to participate.
I will group you into three and the group
with more guess sound will be announce
as the winner.
(The game will start. Each of the group will
guess each sound)

Well, did you enjoy the game?

Yes ma’am
It’s good to hear that you enjoy the game.

B. Review
So class, before we proceed to our new
topic, let’s have first a short recap on what
we’d discussed last meeting.

Class what have you learned last (Andrea is raising her hand)
meeting?

Last meeting ma’am we discussed about

Yes Andrea, you’re raising your hand the speed and position of object to the
amount of energy possessed by a body.

Very good Andrea, last meeting we

discussed about the speed and position of
object to the amount of energy possessed
by a body and its relationship.

So how do you relate speed and position

of object to the amount of energy
possessed by a body? (Gerold is raising his hand)

Yes Gerold, you’re raising your hand Ma’am an increase in speed will increase
the kinetic energy where the object moves.

So what is now the relationship between

speed and position energy? (Excyll is raising her hand)

Yes Excyll Ma’am the energy of body is proportional

to square of speed.

Well what is the energy possessed by a

body or an object? (Roxan is raising her hand)

Yes Roxan Kinetic energy ma’am

So what describes the speed and direction

of an object? (Rolly is raising his hand)

Yes Rolly It is velocity ma’am

Alright very good, it seems like you really

learned something from our previous
lesson.
Is there any questions/clarifications with
regards this topic ?
None ma’am
None? Well it seems like you really listen
carefully last meeting.

C. Motivation
Class listen carefully as I play a song
(After playing the song)

So how do you feel about the song? Great ma’am

While playing the song, what did you
hear? (Jeyrald raising his hand)
Yes Jeyrald We heard a sound
Exactly!
So any other observation? (Shiela is raising her hand)
Yes Shiela Ma’am I observe that sound can travel in a
solid object.
Very good ob servation Shiela.

II. Presentation of the Lesson

So this time I want you to observe pictures
and guess the word this pictures mean.

(Cargely is raising her hand)

Identify these first pictures in one word.

Ma’am the answer is sound.

Yes Cargely

Very good Cargely

(Honey is raising her hand)

How about these pictures?

Yes Honey
Ma’am it is liquid
Very good Honey

How about these last pictures? (Jay is raising his hand)

Yes Jay Ma’am it is gas

Very good Jay! So class what do you think

our topic this morning? (Khyle is raising his hand)

Yes Khyle Ma’am our topic this morning is all about

sound.

Good guess Khyle.

Well before we go through our topic this

morning, I want to ask what sound you
prefer to hear, is it the sound of cars? the
sound of speaker? The sound of chicken?

Alright now can you open it and read what

is written. A. Explain how sound propagated
through different media;
B. Perform an experiment that is related
to sound; and
C. Appreciate the importance of sound in
our daily lives.

So class these are our objectives for us to

be guided as we go along in our new
lesson.

III. Lesson Proper

A. Activity
So this time I will group you into three
groups, please count from 1-3 and group
yourselves according to your number.

Each group, select your group leader.

Here are the materials as well as the
procedures of your activity.
(The teacher will explain each procedures
of the activity and explain it). None ma’am
Any clarifications?

Write the results of your activity on the

long bond paper that I will provide to you. I
will rate your output base from these
criteria

(The teacher will post the criteria and None ma’am

explain it).
Any questions?

Criteria:
Content – 40%
Presentation-30%
Teamwork-30%
Total – 100%

Activity Sheet for Group 1

Materials:
 Guitar
 10-cm straw ribbon

Procedure:
1. Tie a piece of short straw ribbon to one
guitar string. Pull up and let go this guitar
string. Observe closely how the ribbon
moves.
2. While there is still sound, touch the
string very lightly at first with your thumb
and then press it hard.

Activity Sheet for Group 2

Materials:
 Sample Paragraph

Procedure:
1. Place two fingers lightly on your throat.
2. Read a prepared short paragraph.

Activity Sheet for Group 3

Materials:
 Spoon
 Light string(1m long)

Procedures:
1. Tie a 3 cm loop at each end of the
string.
2. Tie a spoon at the middle of the string.
3. Insert a loop at the end of your
forefinger and put the end of a forefinger in
your ear.
4. Let the spoon strike the edge of the
table or any hard surface.
5. Listen carefully to the produced sound.

You may now start your activity. You have

10 minutes to finish that.
(The teacher is supervising the students (Group 1 will present their output)
during the activity).
(After 10 minutes) (Group 2 will present their output)

Times up! Present your output in front. (Group 3 will present their output)
Let’s start with group 1.

Thank you group 1. Next group 2

Yes ma’am
And the last group 3 presents your output.
B. Analysis (Edward is raising her hand)
Alright so let us check your output. Group
2 do you think the observation of group 3
is right? Ma’am group 3 is right that when the
spoon strikes the edge of the table it
creates vibration and produces a sound.
Why do you think so?

Yes Edward Ma’am the vibration reached my ear in a

form of sound.

Very good Edward, so how does the Yes ma’am

vibration reach your ears? Because the molecules of the spoon are
very close to each other. The sound
travels very fast in solid because of the
very close molecules than in liquid and
Very good! When the spoon strikes the gas.
table, did you heard on the spot the
produced sound?
Why is this so?

Yes ma’am

Precisely! The most common medium of Because while you are speaking your
sound propagation is air. throat vibrate when you touch it.

Alright group 1 do you think the

observation of group 2 is right? Sound waves produced by the vibration of
the vocal chords.
Why do you think so?

Very good! So how are sound waves

produced when you talk?
Yes ma’am

Good answer! Because the sound waves produced by

the vibration of the guitar string.
Alright so group 3 do you think the
observation of group 1 is right?

Why do you think so? None ma’am

Very well said!

Do you have any questions or

clarifications?
Sound produced when a vibration causes
Very well!
pressure variations in the medium.

Sound consists of waves of air particles.

C. Abstraction
So class, from your own understanding Sound composed of waves of
how sound produced? compression and rarefaction in which the
human ear is sensitive.

What does consist sound? 1. Transverse waves- occur when the

individual particles or segments of a
What does sound composed of? medium vibrate from side to side
perpendicular to the direction in which the
waves travel.
2. Longitudinal Waves- occur when the
What are the two types of wave? individual particles of a medium vibrate
back and forth in the direction in which the
waves travel.
Material that sound waves can travel
through.

Robert Boyle(1627-1691) a brilliant

English scientist
What is medium?
Solid, liquid, and gases
Who is the first person to discover that
sound needs a medium? Sound can travel through solids, liquids,
and gases but not through a vacuum.
What are the three types of medium?

Can sound travel in solids, liquids, and

gases?

The speed of sound may differ for different

types of solids, liquids and gases. Sound
can travel faster in mediums with higher
elastic properties than in lower elastic
properties. The bond strength between
particles also affects the speed of sound.
Sound waves travel faster in solids than in
liquids and faster in liquids than in gases.
While the density of a medium also affects
the speed of sound, the speed of sound is None ma’am
directly affected by the temperature of the
medium.

So class do you have any questions or

clarifications regarding our topic?

D. Application
Alright since you don’t have any questions,
This time I want you to get a ½ sheet of
paper then make an essay about how .
would you relate the science of sounds to
your daily lives. At least 5 sentences only.

IV. Evaluation (The student will answer each questions.)

So class, as what you can see I have here
a bowl of questions. What you have to do
is pick 5 questions from the bowl and
answer those chosen questions if TRUE
(dobido-bido) and if FALSE (yeeha).

V. Assignment
This time class for your assignment, I want
you to define the following characteristics
of sound.
 Frequency
 Amplitude
 Pitch
 Loudness
 Intensity
 Speed
Submit it in our google classroom using
your school account.

Alright, before we end our class kindly pick Goodbye ma’am! See you again next
up some pieces of garbage in the floor and meeting.
arrange your chairs properly.

Chencha please lead the prayer.

In the Name of the Father and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Goodbye class!
