Formulating Research Hypothesis

Hypothesis
 is a form of statement and the truth/validity or certainty of any statement is
questionable, it is imperative that such a statement must be tested significantly in
order to ascertain its truth and validity
 Is simply a statement that is something is true. It is a tentative explanation, a claim,
or assertion about people, objects, or events.

Example: There is no significant relationship between mathematics attitude and competency

levels of Grade 12 – Food and Beverage Services of the GSAT.

Types of Hypotheses

Null Hypothesis (Ho) - Hypothesis of no difference. Constructed for the purpose of having it
rejected. It is stated in form of there is no difference or there is no significant difference.
𝑥 ̅1 =𝑥 ̅2

Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) - operationalization of the research hypothesis. It is stated in a

form of there is difference or there is a significant difference. 𝑥 ̅ 1 ≠ 𝑥 ̅ 2 that is 𝑥 ̅ 1 > 𝑥 ̅ 2 or
𝑥 ̅ 1 < 𝑥 ̅ 2.
