The Panagbenga festival is a traditional flower festival that takes place in Baguio City,

Philippines and it is celebrated every February. The word "Panagbenga" originated from the
Kankanaey phrase for "blooming season". This celebration acknowledges Baguio's culture
and the values of the Cordilleras. It lasts for more than a month and thrives on participation
from the locals.
There are different types of events that take place each day for a month in this
particular festival. Float parades are covered mostly with flowers, Lively Street dances, and
Different competitions like Pageantry which are of course surrounded with flowers for the
reason that it is one of the highlights of the festival or main attractions, these said are only a
few of the events that occurred during the said festival.

This year’s Panagbenga Festival started off with


the Grand Opening Parade, which was held on February 1 at Session Road and watched by
hundreds of people. Native Dancers carried out a performance at the opening parade of the
Panagbenga Festival. The parade started at Panagbenga Park and all the way to the Melvin
Jones Grandstand and Football grounds where it ended.
Followed by the Grand Opening Parade, The Landscapes Design Competition is one
of the best exhibitions during the Panagbenga Flower Festival. At the exhibition, landscape
designers and gardeners show their original compositions of flowers, plants, stones, wood,
local fabrics, and other materials. According to the competition rules, the garden plot’s
design must be of a specific size. Artists demonstrate skills in creating landscapes that
combine what they see from the environment and various gardens in the Philippines and
abroad. It’s incredible what skillful compositions local landscape designers show every year!
It would help if you visited Burnham Park during the Baguio Flower Festival. You won’t
regret it.
The Panagbenga’s Grand Street Parade is also famous for the Panagbenga Festival.
Thousands of Filipinos and tourists from all over the world come on February 25 to Baguio
to see the beautiful flower arrangements and incendiary dances on the streets of the
summer capital of the Philippines. The procession follows Session Road, then Harrison Road,
until it reaches the Mervyn Jones Grandstand at Burnham Park. If you are not a dancer but
love watching them, this is your day. Students from Baguio schools take part in the parade
of street dancers. You will not remain indifferent to watching dances with original
choreography and excellent costumes. They alternate with drum & lyre bands. It’s not just
dancing; groups compete. The most famous band is the Philippine Military Academy band
The Panagbenga 2023 Grand Float Parade is one of the highlights of the Panagbenga
Festival where the Large Float Category and Little Float Category of the Panagbenga 2023
Grand Float Parade divided the competition while showcasing the contestants' ingenuity
and technical proficiency. The Panagbenga Grand Float Parade judges applauded this year's
competitors for their diligence and ingenuity, stating that these exhibits were among the
greatest they had ever seen.

Aside from the float parades and street dance competitions, the Panagbenga Festival
includes many more activities that gather crowds throughout the month. One of these is the
Session Road in Bloom, which is a display of Baguio's most beautiful flowers along the main
shopping street similar to the night market.

Pony Boy's Day is scheduled for March 4 in 2023. At the annual Pony Boy's Day
celebration at Wright Park, visitors can go on beautiful horseback rides. At this event,
ranchers from various equestrian clubs in the Baguio area assemble with their horses for the
day of the exhibition. They hold racing contests, theater productions, and sports involving
the city's residents' favorite horses to mark the occasion.

Lastly, the Grand Aerial Fireworks display ended the Panagbenga Festival with the
most gorgeous and extravagant fireworks display and many people gathered to witnessed it
happen.
