Narrator 1 :
Once upon a time, there was an evil king whose name was Prabu Baka. He liked to sacrifice
humans every day. He had a preference for killing young people. King Baka had a brief and
faith governor named Patih Gupala.

Prabu Baka: I am the king of the kingdom and you are my society. All of you have to obey
my rules. Ha….ha…..haa……. (he stood with arms akimbo)

Patih Gupala : Glory my lord…..!!! (Followed by the society)

Prabu Baka: My governor….. Come here!!! I wanna eat someone. I’m hungry.

Patih Gupala : But, My lord….. All the sacrifices in our kingdom have been eaten. Where do
we find another one?

Prabu Baka: I don't care. Find it in the other kingdom….!!! Ha…ha…ha…ha….

Patih Gupala : But…….

Prabu Baka: Don’t complaint! Go away at once!!!!

Patih Gupala : S-sure my lord. I will find it in Pengging Kingdom. What do you think about it
my lord?

Prabu Baka: That will do. Practice all of our soldiers to beat the Pengging kingdom. Right
now. Do you understand what I mean??!!!

Patih Gupala : Yes.. The pleasure was all mine my lord (bowing)

Prabu Baka: What are you doing just standing there? Hurry up!!!!
Narrator 1 :
Moreover in the Pengging kingdom, the king of Pengging Prabu Damar Maya had a
wonderful life with his son named Bandung Bondowoso and his society. All of the people
were very happy to live there. The prince of Pengging had been planned to be a king.
Bandung Bondowoso had done the meditation before he expected to be a king.

Prabu Damar Maya: My son…. our kingdom is the biggest kingdom in Java. Now, I am too
old enough to lead this kingdom. One day, you have to replace my position to be a king.

Bandung Bondowoso: I haven’t been ready to replace your position dear father…..

Prabu Damar Maya: You should be ready. I’m afraid our neighbor will see this weakness to
beat our kingdom.

Bandung Bondowoso: I will protect this kingdom as long as I’m still breathing.

Prabu Damar Maya: That’s right. We have to be ready at all times. I will give you all of my
magic. After that you will be ready to lead our kingdom and protect all of our society.

Bandung Bondowoso: Thank you very much my beloved father. (Hug his father)

Narrator 1 :
Meanwhile, Pembayun, Bendoro and their princess Roro jonggrang were in her bedroom.

Bendoro: My princess. I have just heard that our kingdom will attack the Pengging kingdom.

Roro Jongrang: Are you sure?. Pembayun,is it right if our kingdom will have a war?

Pembayun: Yes my princess, we heard from our king's words when he said to Patih Gupala.

Roro jonggrang: So what will my father do..?

Pembayun: The king will prepare the strategies and the society for war.

Bendoro : Yeah princess, I hope that this kingdom will win.

Retno : But, how do we defeat the prince of pengging? I heard that he's the Kingdom's
strongest person..

Bendoro : Don't be too negative Retno, our majesty will surely wipe out the battlefield.

Retno : Ah.. yes i shouldn't think too lowly about our majesty's great power. I'm sorry.

Pembayun : But Hey Princess, I heard that Pengging’s son is a handsome man..
Roro Jonggrang: Nonsense. Why would I care about Pengging's prince? All I care is about
this kingdom, And my dad.

Narrator 1 :
Roro Jonggrang went out from her room with her dayang, Retno and went to the garden.

Roro Jongrang: Retno, actually I am really worried about my father when the war comes.

Retno: Be calm my princes, The king is very strong, I believe that He can defeat the
Pengging Kingdom at ease.

Roro Jonggrang: Yeah, I hope it much.

Narrator 1 :
When the war happened The king of Pengging met the king of Baka and his Patih.

Prabu Baka: Heyyyyy Prabu Damar Maya, are you ready to be sent to hell ?

Prabu Damar Maya: Are you kidding me ? My son is better than you. I will kill you and take
your kingdom with force.

Patih Gupala: Are you sure? I will make you and your son surrender in front of me.

Prabu Damar Maya: Sure, let's see if you can face my son.

Narrator 1 :
In the bitter fight Bandung Bondowoso killed the Patih and Prabu Baka, After the king of
Baka passed away his daughter was very sad.

Roro Jonggrang: Oh Dad, How pittes you are, why did you leave us so soon before I got
married.

Bendoro: Oh my princess please you have to make your heart strong. It was His fate, don’t
cry, don’t be sad you are not alone. You with me and the others.

Narrator 1 :
And all the citizen in the kingdom went into a deep mourning period in addition to their king's
death.
While Roro Jonggrang felt very sad, Bandung Bondowoso looked at Roro Jonggrang.

Demon: Wooow,, how beautiful she is.

Bandung looks at her. She is the most beautiful princess in the world.

Bandung Bondowoso: you're right.. I must get her. But what should I do?

Demon: You have to know all about her. Especially her hobbies or some things like that
Bandung Bondowoso: How to look for it?

Demon: Take it easy My lord. I will help you and find anything you need

Bandung Bondowoso: You will find it for me, won’t you?

Demon: Anything for you, my lord.

Narrator 2 :
After getting the information about Roro jonggrang, Bandung bondowoso went to the Roro
Jonggrang's Kingdom. He tried to get her love. He met one of roro Jonggrang's dayang and
told her what he wanted

Dayang : Princess, there is a man who's looking for you. He said that his name was
Bandung Bondowoso.

Roro Jonggrang : yes, i will be there soon.

Retno : wow.. Someone's looking for our princess! I wonder what business he had with her.

Bendoro : Retno! Stop gossiping about stuff, don't you know who Bandung Bondowoso is?

Pembayun : He's the prince of pengging Retno… the person who had killed our majesty and
patih Gupala.

Dayang : Bandung Bondowoso is quite a dangerous person. We should be careful in case

of any surprise attack.

Retno : Huh? W-what if he wants to harm our princess too? We- we should call the guards
now!

Pembayun: I know how to fight. If needed I will always stand in front of my princess to
protect her.

Dayang : Let's just wait until the princess is back. We can't assume stuff too fast. All I can
confirm is that he's unarmed, and no guards for now.

Narrator 2 :
After a few minutes Bandung Bondowoso waited for Roro Jonggrang. Roro Jonggrang
arrived and met him. He told Roro Jonggrang about his feelings then he wanted to be more
close.

After that Bandung Bondowoso went to his own kingdom. The princess told to her dayangs
what they had discussed.
Roro Jonggrang: Bandung Bondowoso wants to marry me…. I don't want to marry a man
who had killed my own father. What should I do?

Dayang: I have an Idea. My princess gave him an impossible condition by asking him to
make a deep well and 1000 (one thousand) temples in one night. I'm sure a normal human
would not finish it at all, especially in one night.

Roro Jongrang: Wait.. that's a good idea! Thank you my dayang!

Narrator 2 :
Then Roro Jonggrang thought about it by herself. In the morning Bandung Bondowoso came
again to ask Roro jonggrang to marry him.

Bandung Bondowoso: Dear roro, You are like the sunshine in every morning that always
brightens my heart so that I can look at your beautiful face. Roro it may be too fast for you. I
would like to marry you. So, what is your decision?

Roro Jonggrang: I have thought it last night. Actually I would like to marry you but I have 2
requirments for you.

Bandung Bondowoso: What are they my lovely princess?

Roro Jongrang: Listen to me. You must build a well and a thousand temples in one night for
me. Can you do that?

Bandung Bondowoso: It will be ready for you tomorrow morning. Now, I have to go, I want
to start my job. See you next morning my sweet heart.

Narrator 2 :
Bandung agreed with Roro Jongrang’s requirements. Helped by his spirit and his demons,
Bandung Bondowoso started building the well and the temples in one night. He meditated to
call his demon. After his demon appeared, he told what he wanted.

Bandung Bondowoso: My demon you have to help me to build a well and one thousand
temples in one night.

Demon: Sure, my lord. It is so easy for me, because I have many assistants to do it.

Bandung Bondowoso: Do it now! Because the time is limited. You should finish it in one
night. It should be ready next morning.

Demon: With pleasure, my lord.

Narrator 2 :
The demon started to do the job. He told to his assistants to help him.
Demon: My dear assistant...let’s do this job. We have to help our lord. This temple should
be done within the next morning. And our majesty wants to see it done nicely.

Demon's assistant (few person) : Will do, boss.

Narrator 2 :
The demon built the well and the temples, approaching midnight, the demon’s work is nearly
done. Roro Jongrang knew Bandung is smarter than her. Suddenly, she got an idea. She
woke up all the people on the palace and ordered them to make the noisy sounds so that the
roosters would think it had already dawn. So, all of the demon went away. Roro Jongrang
and the dayangs went to Bandung Bondowoso to state if Bandung Bondowoso failed to fulfill
his job.

Roro jonggrang: Bandung Bondowoso, you failed to fulfill my requirements , so you can not
marry me.

Bandung Bondowoso: But it almost finished… I have made a well and 999 temples.

Dayang: But, you had promised me to fulfill the requirements to make 1000 (one thousand)
temples, but because you can not finish this job you cannot marry my princess.

Narrator 2 :
Finally Bandung Bondowoso knew if Roro Jonggrang had lied to him. The demon came back
and told his boss that the day was still midnight. Bandung Bondowoso was very angry with
Roro Jonggrang.

Demon : Sorry to interrupt your talk my lord, but we've figured out that it's still midnight. We
still have time to- (got cut off)

Bandung Bondowoso: You are fraudulent! You lie to me! You make me so angry. I will
make you to be the 1000th (one thousand + th) statue to complete this temple.

Narrator 2 :
At once the princess turned into a statue

Princess!
Oh my.. what had happened to you my princess
W-what could happen to all of us now.
Is- is this a curse that was laid upon this family? First the king and now the princess-!

They began to cry.

Narrator 2 :
Knowing this, Bandung Bondowoso regretted this and he went away to a fair land. Then, the
people called the statue as Prambanan Temple and Roro jonggrang statue which located in
Yogyakarta, West java. And the princess's statue was called Roro Jonggrang statue of
Pancoran.
