rules for the use of the gen. or the асс. in negative sente11ces

when а negated verb answers the questio11 'What was not

the question 'То what was it not done?'. Thus:
Он не куп:Ил машйну Не did not (what?-) Ьиу the car

The girl's face shone with happiness when she turned to her beloved.
But her beloved had disappeared without а trace. А bandy-legged
spiv with а flat chest and wide, feminine hips stood in front of her. Не
had а small hump 011 his back. His arms, pulled in tight at the arm-
pits, hung helplessly down his strang<: body. His face expressed horror.
Не had seen his beloved.
She wore а ready-made frock from some private Со-ор. for Workers.
It bulged over the belly. The small belt was inserted in such а way as
to make the trunk as Iong as possiЫe and the legs as short as possiЫe.
And it had worked.
А great misfortune had occurred that sшnmer. Some sewing
superintendent had decreed from on high that frocks should have small
bows. And so between the belly and the breast there was а small bow
sewn on Ьу order. Really it would have been better if it hadn't Ъееn
