4TH QUARTER 2021-2022

A. PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION

PROJECT GOALS 1. Designing and constructing a waiting shed that reflects the theme for EXPO 2032 and to
ensure that both functionality and design requirements are met.
2. Entice visitors and guests who will enter EXPO 2032 and ensure that the waiting shed
can serve as a precursor to the leading expo.
3. Complete the structure in 8-12 weeks prior to the expo, including permits and
approvals, materials fabrication, and the structure's construction.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES • To ensure that the people who occupy the space will benefit from the environmental
design that has been implemented. Having the opportunity to manage the population
and manipulate the spaces covered within the expo.
• By repurposing existing structures, retention of natural resources and materials on the
said location will be used. Considering the humid climate in the said area, the use of
wooden materials in the process of creating the project will benefit from the moisture
created by the said materials, which will lower the temperature on the site. This will be
achieved as a result of the usage of the said materials. Sustainable Historic
Preservation.
• To design a commercial waiting shed that is properly oriented to the sun that will cut
10% of heat absorption.
• To provide materials on heritage conservation that will be used in designing the shed.
Functional designs, elements, and principles through the use of woodcrafts found in
Pampanga.
• To finish the project prior to the exact date of the expo. In spite of the timeframe, the
designers are rest assured that the expo's desired functionality and aesthetic design will
be met.
• To provide a waiting shed that specializes in sustainable and green architecture. The
application of sustainable methods will be used in constructing the expo 32.

SITE DISCUSSION • The site is located in Magalang, Pampanga, Philippines and the main road is the
Magalang-Concepcion RD which is a one-lane, two-way road.
• Natural features of the site in Magalang includes grass fields and trees. The site also has
a good view of Mt. Arayat in the southeast.
• The site has few existing industrial infrastructures and residential buildings which is
mostly situated on the main road. Magalang-Concepcion Road is a one- lane, two-way
street therefore it may cause heavy traffic in the process of construction and the
opening day.
• The nearest junction is the Clark International Airport which is 16-18 km away but may
vary depending on where the site will be constructed.
• The topography of the site is fairly flat with the highest elevation of 40m to the west
and lowest elevation of 34m to east.
• Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 22 degrees C to 35
degrees C with the hottest month of the year in April, with an average high of 34°C and
low of 25°F.
• The 19th of November marks the beginning of Magalang's clearer half of the year,
which continues for another 5.1 months and ends on the 22nd of April. February is the
clearest month of the year in Magalang, with an average of 55 percent of its days
having clear, mostly clear, or partly overcast skies. This makes February the clearest
month of the year. Around April 22 marks the beginning of the cloudier phase of the
year, which continues for 6.9 months and ends sometimes around November 19.
August is the cloudiest month of the year in Magalang, with an average of 92 percent of
the time being overcast or mainly cloudy. This makes August the cloudiest month of the
year.
• There is a larger than 41 percent chance of precipitation falling on any given day during
the wetter season, which begins on May 16 and continues until October 16. August is
the month that experiences an average of 23.3 days that get at least 0.10 centimeters
of precipitation, making it the wettest month in Magalang. In contrast, the dry season
lasts for seven months, from October 16th to May 16th. The driest month overall is
January in Magalang, with only an average of 2.0 days receiving at least 0.04 inches of
precipitation over the course of the month.
• The wet season of the year lasts for ten months, beginning on March 10 and ending on
January 11, and during that time it rains at least 0.5 inches per month on average.
August is the wettest month on average in Magalang, with 19.9 inches of rain falling
throughout the month on average.
• The rainless period of the year lasts for 2.0 months, from January 11 to March 10. The
month with the least rain in Magalang is January, with an average rainfall of 0.4 inches.
• The average hourly wind speed in Magalang has only slight fluctuations due to changes
in the seasons throughout the course of the year. Between the end of May and the
beginning of June, the wind blows primarily from the west for 2.7 weeks. From late
June until late September, the wind blows primarily from the west for 2.9 months, with
the highest percentage, 57 percent, occurring on August 9. From June 13 to June 30,
the wind comes primarily from the south for a total of 2.4 weeks, with the highest
percentage, 36 percent, occurring on June 28. In conclusion, the direction of the wind is
most frequently from the east for 7.9 months, with the percentage reaching its highest
point on January 1 and ranging from late September to late May.
• During the 5.3 months that make up the windier half of the year, which begin on
November 5 and end on April 14, average wind speeds of more than 6.8 miles per hour
can be expected. January is the month in Magalang with the highest average hourly
wind speed, clocking in at 8.2 miles per hour. This makes it the windiest month of the
year.
• The portion of the year with higher-than-average wind speeds lasts for 5.3 months,
beginning on November 5 and ending on April 14; during this time, the average wind
speed is over 6.8 miles per hour. The month of January in Magalang has an average
hourly wind speed of 8.2 miles per hour, making it the windiest month of the year
there.
• The dew point is what we use as a benchmark for the humidity comfort level since it
indicates whether or not perspiration will evaporate from the skin, which in turn cools
the body. When the dew point is lower, the air feels dryer, and when it's higher, the air
feels more humid. Even though the temperature may drop at night, a humid day is
generally followed by a muggy night because the dew point tends to vary more slowly
than the temperature does, which means that even if the temperature may drop at
night, a muggy day is typically followed by a muggy night. There is a noticeable shift in
the level of humidity that one experiences throughout the year in Magalang. The period
of the year when the humidity is at its highest lasts for 9.9 months, beginning on March
5 and ending on January 1. During this time, the degree of comfort is either muggy,
oppressive, or terrible at least 75% of the time. August is the month that experiences
the most days that are considered to be humid or worse in Magalang, with 30.9 days
falling into this category. February is the month in Magalang that has the fewest days
that are humid or worse on average, with only 19.6 days falling into this category.

PROJECT 1. BUILDING CODES

REQUIREMENTS • Building codes that may address a variety of concerns are required for the
protection of the general welfare, public health, and safety as they pertain to
the construction and occupancy of the design structure- a waiting shed inspired
by the EXPO 2032 theme in Magalang, Pampanga.
• It includes all the sections under the General Provisions, Administration and
Enforcement, Permits, and Inspections, Types of Construction, Requirement for
Fire Zones, General Design and Construction Requirements, etc.

2. ZONING CODES
• Attributed to the reason that the design project is a commercial construction
that will be constructed in an open field of Magalang, Pampanga, with several
issues that need to be taken into consideration, including their agricultural lands
and any other residential neighborhoods, Zoning Laws will limit its specific
geographical areas for the protection of certain resources, and space for
residents, as well as to prevent environmental issues (noise, land, air, etc.)

3. MATERIALS AVAILABILITY
• The materials used in the design project must be logically coherent resources
that fulfill all demand requirements. For cost savings, special consideration must
be given to material handling, which includes purchasing, inventory
management, shop fabrication, and field maintenance.
4. SPECIAL ECC REQUIREMENTS OWNERSHIP
• Before participating in the design project being hosted in Magalang, Pampanga,
obtaining an Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) must be taken into
consideration. Proper planning and respect for our natural resources,
agriculture, and water level analysis must be incorporated into the overall plan
to protect and secure our environment, people from the EXPO32, and residents
of Magalang, Pampanga.

5. LEGAL REQUIREMENT: TCT AND TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION OF LOT

• The Technical Description written in the TCT must be analyzed, as it provides
information such as the bearing (East, West, North, and South direction), the
boundary of the lot, area, Ownership, Location, etc.
• Legal requirement aside from TCT also includes;
o Duplicate or copy of a lot title
o Land survey
o Affidavit of Consent
o Tax Declaration
o Right of Way
o Natural Elements
o Grades and Lines of property

6. CLIMATE CONSIDERATION
• Since this project will take place in 2032, it is projected that more buildings or
structures will be constructed with the assistance of green architecture. Given
the significant changes in the climate, rainfall intensity is one important factor
to consider. The EXPO32-inspired waiting shed shall adopt the sustainability
practices, such as installing a rainwater collecting system and other green
strategies.
