HOW DIFFERENT GROUPS ARE SHOWING RESISTANE TOWARDS
CURRENT SENRARIO

Currently COVID 19 is a pandemic infectious disease which is spreading swiftly around the globe,
creating unprecedented lockdown. Corona virus is spreading among humans through small droplets
from mouth of an infected person. The outbreak was first reported in Wuhan, China. Before reading in
detail about the impact, first, let us discuss about Corona virus. Corona virus (CoV) is a large family of
viruses that causes illness. It ranges from the common cold to more severe diseases like Middle East
Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). The novel
corona virus is a new strain of virus that has not been identified in human so far the Vaccines are under
development. We can’t ignore the fact that the outbreak of COVID-19 in China is expected to have a
significant impact on our economy India globally including economic slowdown, trade, supply chain
disruption, commodities, and logistics. The country reported its first case on January 30 in recent
weeks, though India has seen exponential growth in the number of cases. We were anyway living in
uncertain times. Corona virus has now added another layer of uncertainty while the Doctors, Police
and the Government of the country are continuously fighting to resist the population from corona

HEALTH SECTOR
Doctors -The Prime Minister pledged financial support to strengthen the health-care system. Health
workers wearing facemasks amid concerns over the spread of the COVID-19 novel corona virus, stand
as they wait to spray disinfectant at the corporation office .Since they can’t identify a Covid-19 patient
without a test, every patient suspected. The first thing they ask them is their travel history. If there is a
travel history from geographies where corona virus risks are high, then they become more cautious.

GOVERMENT
The government is taking all steps to prevent spread of corona virus and the scale of interventions has
been increased in alignment with the evolving situation in India .The prime minister is personally
monitoring the preparedness and response on a regular basis and a Group of Ministers has been
constituted to monitor the situation. Presently it prescribes, all regular visa granted to nationals of
Italy, Iran, South Korea, Japan and issued on or before March 3 and who have not yet entered India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government was quick to recommend residents avoid or postpone
mass gatherings until the virus is contained.

There are different group of people who are affected by currently going on pandemic and are resisting various
changes happening in the business environment:

BUSINESS
BUSINESS MAN-The issue of business continuity constantly weighs on a business man’s mind. Even if
one person gets Covid-19, all the people have to be quarantined. Large firms have cushion, they can
plan for contingencies and segregate teams to avoid the spread of contagion. For the small business
man, precaution is critical as their entire business is at risk. Due to outbreak of COVID 19 the work
travel are suspended all the transportation facilities i.e. train and flights are cancelled to international
and even at domestic locations for the time being. This of course has financial implications as well. One
saving grace is that business man has realized is Working from home. Working from home may become
more of a necessity not even just because of illness, or the avoidance of illness, but because the
complete lockdown. The business man’s are working remotely and setting up the tools that they will
need to work from home effectively, The employees are now using video check-ins daily to stay
connected, using leverage company communication tools to support one another in completing tasks,
and respond to clients with the same level of commitment as they use to do when they were physically
in their workplace, clients have stopped all face-to-face meetings. Video interviews and virtual
meetings have become common after this outbreak. Businesses that thrive on proximity or contact like
gyms, restaurants will be affected badly. An outbreak impacted the whole world and has been felt
across industries- Tourism and Aviation, Textiles Industry, Auto Industry, Shipping Industry, Electronics
Industry, IT Industry. For companies, business as usual is not an option. They can start by drawing up
and executing a plan to support employees that is consistent with the most conservative guidelines
that might apply and has trigger points for policy changes.

DIFFERENT INCOME GROUP

 Lower Income -Modiji’s sudden announcement on March 24 sent waves of panic across the
country. But for India's 40 million migrant workers it was a do-or-die situation to seek the safety
of home. The announcement caused an exodus among the working poor. Thousands fled on
foot to their villages often hundreds of kilometers away while slum dwellers and daily wage
workers are struggling to earn their daily bread migrant laborers have also been left without
work. With the lockdown suspending all forms of work for three weeks with very little savings
and a poor social security net families in rural India are having fewer meals borrowing money
and braving the threat of police violence in order to go out and work. But Several state
governments including that of Haryana, Punjab, UP, Kerala and Himachal Pradesh have already
launched relief funds to help those in need. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also
announced a special package amounting to Rs 1.7 lakh crore for the same purpose The relief
package will cover close to 80 crore people, ensuring their safety during the lockdown. The
Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Yojana will give the people covered under it five kg of
rice/wheat for three months But it is not just the government which is stepping forward, a slew
of NGO’s across the country are charging ahead to alleviate the conditions Uday Foundation are
providing corona virus care kits to the poor. They have distribute over 2 lakh hand sanitizers
and soaps, and also feed at least 50,000 individuals .Goonj- In the last few days, the NGO has
distributed rice, wheat, pulses, and oil in packages worth Rs 600 to more than 650 families.
Hasiru Dala has helped more than 1,000 waste picker families across six cities.
 High Income Group- Indians are fleeing to the countryside as work dries up, bringing fears of
further infections, the super-rich are preparing to self-isolate the world’s richest people
are chartering private jets to set off for private islands Ex ; Rolando went to a private island with
his family in avoidance of this virus

AGRICULTURE SECTOR
FARMERS -Corona virus along with import-export, and manufacturing, is slowly impacting Indian
agriculture and moreover every industry. The virus has a huge negative impact on agricultural products
imported into India. As it is prone to spread the virus easily, it decreased the imports by India where
the raw material exports have fallen by 1.6%. Commodities exported by India include cotton, jute,
organic chemical, pharmaceutical and horticultural products like Soyabean, tobacco, fruits, maize, etc.
As the restriction on movement of goods continues amid the lockdown, the farmers are likely to feel
the pinch in their income Demand for perishables has declined as bulk demand has stopped. However,
there is more demand for vegetables that have longer shelf life, such as onions, potatoes and tomatoes
There is no shortage of fruits and vegetables and the market is not closed The 'work-from-home'
option seems to be applicable even to those working in the agricultural sector, especially during such
critical situations Farmers, who usually sell their crops through an established supply chain that was set
up by the APMCs, have adopted a method to avoid market yards and sell their produces from their
doorstep. As all major states have imposed a lockdown to restrict the spread of the deadly corona virus
farmers have decided to explore the option of 'off-market' sale or what they call it as 'sell-from-farm'.
In which they don't incur transportation cost and they don't need to pay commission and other labor
charges that they usually do at APMC There are restrictions regarding the movement also. So in a
scenario like this, the farmers have no option but to sit at home with their produce lying on the field.
Therefore, more and more farmers are now resorting to this mode of trade because they need money
immediately so that by March end, they can repay their loan obligations.

STOCK MARKET
SHAREHOLDERS -Being a shareholder activist investor isn’t such a good look right now. Executives
are struggling to keep their companies afloat and their workers employed Due to the amid corona virus
pandemic, we have seen a large fall in the equity markets around the world. Global markets including
the domestic markets are in a stage of unpredictable future at present due to corona issue Many
market experts say that like many other crisis this too will pass and come to an end, but most
important for the investors to keep in mind post the ongoing impact in the markets. They should
maintain asset allocation discipline to avoid any heavy loss
 They should redeem some of their fixed income investments to make fresh lump sum
investments in equity funds or top up their existing equity investments
 Avoid Banking stocks, NBFCs, financial sector stocks
 One can buy blue chip companies like TCS, Infosys, and RIL at low levels
 Invest systematically and allocate good stocks
 Equity investors can turn their portfolio allocation towards large cap and multi cap stocks

ANTECEDENTS AND CONSEQUENTS

Despite being the world’s second most population country, with more than 1.3 billion people Even so,
the nation still faces many of the same challenges as other countries, including limiting unauthorized
gatherings and debunking fake health messages circulating on social media. The global economic
impact will be hard to avoid, with the United Nations’ trade and development agency predicting the
slowdown in the global economy caused by the corona virus outbreak is likely to cost at least $1
trillion.

 White-collared office workers are working from home but most SMEs have factory workers for
whom work from home is impossible. Further they are facing disruptions at both ends — raw
material supply and shriveling demand.
 Loan repayment will be a challenge for most workers. While the Mortality rate will be increased
.Murari Kumar, who runs cabs in Noida is in shock. He doesn’t know how to react to how his
business has been hit, out of the blue. The cars are also on Ola and Uber platforms. “Overnight,
my business has vanished. I have salaries and EMIs to pay,” he says. On average, his fixed
monthly outgo is Rs 3.74 lakh. Demand on cab hailing apps is almost nil now and mandatory
work from home for employees means he has no work with the IT firm either. Kumar says he
can continue for a month like this. After that, only God can help, he says. “Is main loss hi loss
hai I don’t know which business I should start now to earn money and pay loans,” he says.
 India's corona virus measures are leaving little work for citizens, forcing many to return to their
countryside homes with family. Thousands of poor city migrants whose livelihoods have
collapsed due to India's corona virus measures headed back to their villages “Some people will
die of the virus. The rest of us will die of hunger," said taxi driver Sanjay Sharma on an empty
Mumbai street, adding he would travel to the northern state of Himachal Pradesh, where his
family owns a small apple orchard
 The Ministry of External Affairs postponed the Indian cricket league and state authorities are
shutting schools, gyms and swimming pools in the worst-hit regions Even the Janta curfew for
launched by the government and afterwards the complete lockdown for 21 days.
 Everyone is normalizing their schedule while putting in place necessary precautions like
avoiding crowded places, wearing masks when required, washing hands and sanitizing
frequently.
