The Beach

By

Sydney Russell
Concept
The main theme is childhood and the beach. I will explore the differences between mine and
Jacobs experiences with the beach and how that has reflected onto who we are now. Later
in the video we will do some inner-child healing and try convert me to loving the beach. I
want this to be an easy going film with not a lot of drama and a lot of insight. I will use music
in my film but only in specific clips. I am not sure what music I am going to use yet but I want
it to be ‘seasidey’.
Plan of Action

I will record an initial interview with Jacob Shaw to get an idea of what my script will contain
while still being authentic to his story. Then I will film a second interview/conversation
between the both of us that will have a script to guide us.
After that ill edit the video so I know how long animations need to be to fit the audio. Next I
will be creating the animations and go to a beach to film at the soonest convenience. After
this I will touch up or re-do any animations if needed and edit the montage part of the
video. Once I have finished everything I will check with Jacob to make sure he is happy with
what I have put in and then upload I to YouTube.

Sustainability
I will be using products/materials I already have or can borrow from the studio so I will be
looking at reusing and recycling/upcycling. For example I am using phone cameras and a film
camera I’ve had since I was 8, a JVC hard disk camcorder.
The interview/conversation I have with Jacob Shaw will be rewatched by both of us so he
can ask to remove anything he doesn’t want in the film.
We will be driving to a beach but I want to try and keep the journey under an hour to
reduce carbon emissions as well as petrol used. We will also camp over to make the most of
the trip.
Resources and Budget

I have bought a lightbox as I found using it in the studio very enjoyable and want to be able
to continue my work outside studio hours.
I have sourced my old camera from when I was 8-9 years old, I think using this for some of
the scenes will add to the authenticity of a childhood based film.
When it comes to location I want to film on a beach, to do this I will drive to a particularly
large beach on a grey day to try and avoid the general public.
The actors/characters are me and my boyfriend so I won’t need to pay anyone which saves
money.
I will need to purchase a specific wire to transfer the footage on my camera onto my laptop-
though I might be able to find/borrow one
I will have to spend money on petrol to get to the beach.

Safety
I will be bringing tarpaulins and waterproofs to protect phones and cameras or anything else
that may be prone to water damage.
I will try to find a large beach on a grey and rainy day to avoid the general public. The actual
script doesn’t involve anything invasive to the people who may be around so noise or
upsetting scenes shouldn’t be an issue.
