TOPIC: Resolving the question of the political status of Nagorno-Karabakh

The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan is the result of an irresponsible

and disorganized foreign policy carried out by the Soviet authorities. At the
start of the 20th century, an autonomous region of Nagorno-Karabakh was
created and assigned as the region of Soviet Azerbaijan, although it is one of
Armenia’s ancient cultural heritages and the vast majority of the population
had Armenian ethnicity. Over the years, the authorities of Azerbaijan tried to
gradually eliminate any trace of Armenian culture and the local Armenians
started to protest. As a result, Azeri authorities used force, committing
massacres, yet the Armenians fighting for their lives, freed Nagorno-Karabakh
and reached a peace agreement with Azerbaijan.

In 2020 the conflict reignited, as the Azerbaijan forces, aided militarily by

Turkey, occupied large portions of Armenia’s land, including Nagorno-
Karabakh. Now it is the republic of Armenia’s utmost priority to make the area
of conflict a safe place for the Armenian population.

The Republic of Armenia is convinced that Nagorno-Karabakh shall not be

under the control of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is not content with Armenian
culture, which is therefore creating an unsafe enviroment for the Armenian
population, as well as its culture and religion and supposing the delegates are
concerned for the well-being of the Armenian community, it should be in their
greatest interest to achieve Armenian independence in Nagorno-Karabakh.

TOPIC: Adressing the territorial dispute over Western Sahara

Since the departure of Spain after the end of World War II, an ongoing conflict
has erupted due to the claims over Western Sahara. Throughout the years we
have witnessed many resolutions attempting to resolve the conflict, most of
which were unsuccessful to satisfy all parties. The recent events in Guerguerat
showed beyond doubt the need for a political resolution.

The Republic of Armenia does not recognize the Sahrawi Arab Democratic
Republic. However, it must be noted that a very large percentage of the
population of Western Sahara consists of Sahrawi people and Armenia
sympathizes with their fear of losing their own culture. Armenia believes that
establishing an autonomus state within the Republic of Morocco may be in
order.

We believe that a resolution that would create a balanced division of power is

required. It is also essential to emphasize the importance of creating peace
treaties between all sides and thus preventing a potential war. The Republic of
Armenia is also open to the idea of retaking a fair referendum.
