My shoes

Jack Coyer
A man goes through several parts of his life wearing the same pair of shoes, eventually
having to replace them.

In this short film I want to depict a pair of shoes owned by a man. The man wears these
shoes everywhere with everything he does. He takes them on runs, he goes to class in
them, he eats food in them, etc. I want to utilize match cuts where it focuses on his shoe
but the backdrop changes as it shows that he goes to other places. This will be the
camerawork/editing technique that focuses on throughout the film. I think it’ll add a cool
stylistic effect while simultaneously challenging me in a new way. I also want to utilize
the natural lighting around campus to depict the different emotions throughout the film.
The camera will follow the shoes mostly and where they go. By placing the camera at
the “eyeline” of the shoes, the viewer will learn about the character and where he goes.
At first, I want him to go around doing various everyday tasks. But towards the end, the
character will stand in front of a gravestone, showing the sadness with somber blue
colors. The character will go about his daily tasks, but now at a slower pace. And
eventually, the old shoes will be replaced by a new, clean pair.
