Reflection 2

I believe that language devices were used beneficially. Firstly, in the YouTube video, Cogito

(2020) used animation, metaphors, and tone. “Think of Brahman as an ocean and everything else

as drops propelling out of that ocean. Separate for a time, but still the same thing” The creator’s

use of metaphor when explaining who Brahman (the universal God of Hinduism) by comparing

him to an ocean. Also, the creator’s tone when explaining the beliefs of Hindus. He explains the

beliefs in a tone that makes the audience feel intrigued with the topic and curious for more.

Secondly, in the blog post, Hinduism (2017), the author uses the language device known as ‘Use

of Statistics’. “Roughly 95 percent of the world’s Hindus live in India”. Here, the author uses

percentages to describe to us the location of the mass majority of Hindus. The author also uses

punctuation when describing some of the different religious ideas embraced by Hinduism, using

quotations such as “way of life” or a “family of religions”.
