Este examen está basado en los temas que se presentan en las primeras seis unidades del libro:
“Interchange” de Jack C. Richards Editorial Cambridge, fifth edition.

Los temas que tienes que estudiar se presentan a continuación:

Unit 1. That´s my kind friend!


Grammar:
a) Relative pronouns as subjects and, objects.
b) It clauses + adverbial clauses with when.

Functions:
a) Describing personalities.
b) Expressing likes and dislikes.
c) Agreeing and disagreeing.
d) Complaining.

Vocabulary and expressions.


a) Personalities; direct, easygoing, egoistical, encouraging, friendly, helpful, inflexible, etc.
b) Expressing likes and dislikes; I’ll like people who /that…, I like /love (it when)..
c) Asking for more information, complaining (I can´t stand when…, It annoys /bothers/
upsets me when.., I hate it when…
d) Expressing agreement and disagreement; For me…, I think…, I agree, I{m not sure I
agree, etc.

Unit 2. Working 9 to 5
Grammar:
a) Gerund phrases as subjects and objects.
b) Comparisons with adjectives; nouns, verbs, and past participles.

Functions:
a) Talking about possible careers.
b) Describing jobs.
c) Job skills, summer jobs, advantages, and disadvantages of jobs.

Vocabulary:
a) Jobs /occupations/careers; doctor, entrepreneur, fashion designer, firefighter, mayor,
politician, tour guide, etc.
b) Giving and opinion; in my opinion, interpreting information, It sounds like…, Expressing
personal preferences, I´d be interested in…, I´d get tired of…, I´m very excited by…
c) Adding information; In addition…, For example… Furthermore…, However… In conclusion,
etc.

Unit 3. Lend and hand.


Grammar:
a) Requests with modals, if clauses, and gerunds.
b) Indirect request; statements, imperatives, yes/no questions, wh- questions.
c) Indirect request: introduced by that, using infinitives, introduced by if or whether, introduced
by question word.
Functions:
a) Favor; formal and informal request, messages.
b) Discuss favors, borrowing, and lending.
c) Leave messages with request.
d) Making direct and indirect request; accepting and declining requests.

Vocabulary:
a) Making, accepting, and declining requests; Can I…? / Could you …, please?, Is it OK if I…
?, Would it be al right /OK if I? etc.
b) Thanking someone; Thanks a million. /Thanks. 7 I really appreciate it. / Sure.
c) Making indirect requests; Could you tell me…, Please tell…, Would you ask… if/whether
/to…? Please ask… if /whether…, etc.
d) Apologizing; I´m sorry, I’m really sorry, Sorry, etc.

Unit 4. What happened.


Grammar:
a) Past continuous vs. simple past.
b) Past perfect.

Functions:
a) Describe past events.
b) Tell stories.
c) Past perfect for an event that occurred before another event in the past.

Vocabulary:
a) Events; coincidence, dilemma, disaster, emergency, lucky break, mishap, mistake, mystery,
triumph, etc.
b) Reacting to a story; What happened?, That´s terrible!.

Unit 5. Expanding your horizons.


Grammar:
a) Past continuous vs. simple past.
b) Past perfect.
c) Noun phrases containing relative clauses.

Functions:
a) Discuss living in a foreign country.
b) Describe cultural expectations and differences.
c) Expectations, when you visit someone, if you want to bring others.

Vocabulary:
a) Expressing emotions; one thing /something I´D be (anxious /excited/…) about is…
b) Asking for permissions/ Is it all right to…?
c) Describing expectations; You´re supposed to…, You´re expected to…, It´s the custom to…,
It´s not acceptable to…
d) Expressing an opinion/ a feeling; Oh, how (nice/awful/…)!

Unit 6. That needs fixing.


Grammar:
a) Describing problems with past participles as adjectives and with nouns.
b) Describing problems with need + gerund, need + passive infinitive, and keep + gerund.

Functions:
a) Describing problems.
b) Making complaints.
c) Explaining something that needs to be done.
Vocabulary:
a) Offering help; Can I help you?, What can I do for you?
b) Describing problems; What´s wrong with it?; It´s torn /stained/ damaged/ scratched / cracked/
chipped/ worn.
c) What exactly is the problem?; It has a tear / a hole/ a stain/ some damage./There are a few
scratches/ There´s a crack. / It´s leaking. / It has a leak.

Unit 7. What can we do?.


Grammar:
a) Passive with prepositions; present continuous passive, present perfect passive.
c) Infinitive clauses and phrases.

Functions:
a) Identifying and describing problems; coming up with solutions.
b) The environment; global challenges; current issues.

Vocabulary:

a) Describing problems; The … are being … by…/ The … have been… through
b) Offering solutions; one thing to change things is to…/ another way to stop them is to…/ the
best way to help is to…
c) Talking about what will happen; What if…?/ Well, then…
d) Identifying something; What´s the name of…? / It´s called…

Unit 8. Never stop learning.


Grammar:
a) Would rather and would prefer.
b) By + gerund to describe how to do things.

Functions:
a) Asking about preferences; discussing different skills to be learned, learner choices.
b) Talking about learning methods, talking about life skills.
c) Discuss ways of learning and life skills.

Vocabulary:

a) Asking about preferences; Would you rather … or…? / I´d rather (not)…/ Would you prefer to
