Lamb to the Slaughter

Exposition : The story begins with a pregnant woman named Mary Maloney who is waiting for her
husband to return from work. The house that Mary lives in is very warm and comfortable. There Mary
had prepared several glasses of drink to welcome her husband's arrival.

Inciting incident : When Patrick Maloney, Mary's husband had arrived she was painstakingly served and
prepared his drinks. Here it can be seen that Patrick looks strange and a little different from usual.

Rising action : This happened when Patrick wanted to say something to Mary. She actually felt bad
about her husband's behavior so she diverted the conversation by asking what he wanted to eat. But
Patrick still wanted to talk and Mary finally listened. He wanted to divorce Mary.

Climax : Of course Mary hoped that her husband's words only happened in a dream. She was in shock
and disbelief at the time but she managed to stay calm and said that she would make dinner. Who
would have thought that Mary took a frozen leg of lamb and hit it hard on the back of her husband's
head. He staggered for a moment and collapsed. Mary was sure that her husband had died.

Falling action : Mary realized that her behavior could cost her severely. She did not want to take any
risk. Mary immediately came up with a scenario. Cooked the leg of lamb, bought some cooking
ingredients and then called the police about her husband's murder.

Denouement : The police and detectives realized that Patrick was dead after something heavy hit him in
the back of the head. But they did not find any clues about the killer. Here they even finished the leg of
lamb Mary had cooked. That way she managed to escape accusations because there was no evidence.
