Course Instructor
Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1. Discuss an understanding of the concepts, underlying principles
and the core competency in animation;
2. Identify animation requirements;
3. Produce key drawings Edit, revise and complete key drawings;
4. Relate traditional animation to 2D digital animation;

ANIMATION NCII COMPETENCIES
Clean-up and In-betweening
Learning Objectives

At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

1. Identify all relevant cleaned-up and in-between requirements from
the appropriate source material;
2. Check all clean-up key drawings from errors;
3. Produce clean-up and in-between drawings which are consistent
with the requirements.
What is CLEAN-UP in Animation?

Cleaning-up animation is the process of

creating the final drawings you see in the
finished film
This stage is ideal on major production to have
a team of clean-up artists on staff or
sometimes called assistant animator.
What do CLEAN-UP animators do?

Cleaning-up Artists refine sketches that are

roughly drawn (roughs) at the concept stage
to polished line drawing.

They trace over the key drawings (keys) in

solid lines, paying close attention to retain the
essence of the original sketch.
Clean-up is a part of the workflow in the
production of hand-drawn animation, in which
“clean” versions of the “rough” animation
drawings are produced.

What is clean-up drawing?

The first drawings are
called “roughs” or “rough
animation” because they
are often done in a very
loose fashion”

What is In-Betweening (Tweening)?

In-betweening is the process of creating

transitional frames between two separate
objects in order to show the appearance of
movement and evolution of the first object
into the second object.
What is In-Betweening (Tweening)?

The frames between the

key frames (the first and
last frames of the
animation are called “in-
betweens” and they help
make the illusion of fluid
motion.
What is In-Betweening (Tweening)?

Keys or key poses are drawings describing the

motion in an animation sequence. Refer as
extremes, whether in position or in time.

Directions: Draw the missing drawings of the given key drawings. Observed the

PRINCIPLES OF ANIMATION
Learning Objectives

At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

1. Identify the principles of animation;
2. Create animation based on the principles of
animation; and
3. Value the importance of principles of animation.
