Assessment Overview
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to manage time during projects. It involves
determining and implementing the project schedule, and assessing time management outcomes.

It applies to individuals responsible for managing and leading a project in an organisation, business,
or as a consultant.

You are required to develop a project schedule using project management tools and techniques and
manage time during the projects. You will need to determine and implement project schedule, and
assess time management outcomes.

Assessment Task 2 – Project

Assessment Instruction:
You are the project manager assigned to build and decorate a model home for your client (your
trainer & assessor playing the role of your client). You are required to develop a project schedule
using project management tools and techniques and manage time during the projects. You will
need to determine and implement project schedule and assess time management outcomes.

Assessment Requirements:

Part 1: Develop project schedule


Task 1: Develop the WBS for the project and ensure that the hierarchical WBS can be converted
into the project schedule.

Task 2: Define all of the activities that will be necessary to create each deliverable in your WBS.

Task 3: Determine the sequence of activities and task dependencies.

Task 4: Develop the logical relationship between activities including:

a) Finish to start

b) Start to start

c) Finish to finish

d) Start to finish

Task 5: Determine the duration of each activity and identify major project milestones and include
them in the schedule.

Task 6: Develop the GANTT chart and the Critical Path for the project (use MS project/Project
Libre or any other project management software of your choice). Discuss the same with your
client (trainer & assessor), take note of any recommendation and changes advised and incorporate
the same onto the Gantt Chart and Critical Path.

Part 2: Controlling and monitoring the project schedule


Task 7: Review your project life cycle and develop strategies to manage project common issues
which lead to change requests:

d) Pressure-promoted resources

Task 8: Analyse and forecast possible changes to your project schedule. Develop responses to
potential schedule changes taking into consideration the effects on time and the benefits of these
