SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN PHYSICS

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

1. To be able to know what is the Newton’s Second Law of Motion.

2. To understand the use of Law of Acceleration.
3. To understand how the mass of an object affects its acceleration.
4. to be able to calculate the acceleration of an object given the force applied to it
and its mass.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

A. TOPIC:

Newton’s Second Law of Motion (Law of Acceleration)

B. REFERENCE
Module 2: Laws of Motion – Quarter 1 (Science – Grade 8)
First Edition, 2020
C. MATERIALS
Whiteboard
Markers
Laptop/Computer
PowerPoint Presentation

III. LEARNING ACTIVITIES AND PROCEDURES:

A. DAILY ROUTINE
 Greetings
 Prayer
 Attendance
B. MOTIVATION
 If you throw a softball and a baseball as hard as you can why don’t they have the
same speed?
 Suppose you are pushing a cart and if you apply more force, what will happen?
 What happens if you apply the same force to objects with different masses?

C. LESSON PROPER

The teacher will discuss about the law of acceleration. The teacher also discusses the
application of the second law of motion by giving a various example that the student will
be able to fully understand the lesson.

D. GENERALIZATION
 How is acceleration related to the net force?
 Give examples how is the law of acceleration used in everyday life.

E. APPLICATION

Fill in the blanks

1. Newton’s ___________, also known as the _______________, states that

acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the net force causing it and
inversely proportional to its mass.
2. The symbol ∑ (sigma) stands for the algebraic sum. ∑ ⃗
F stands for the
___________ acting on the object, m for the mass of the object and a⃗ for its
acceleration. The arrow above the letters F∧a indicates that both have
________________ and ____________.

IV. EVALUATION

Answer the Activity 3. Newton’s Second Law of Motion (Law of Acceleration)

on page 14 on your Module.
V. ASSIGNMENT

A box is pushed with an applied force of 20N parallel to the floor. It accelerated
at 1.50 m/ s2 to the right. A parallel applied force of 10N on the opposite side slowed
down the motion of the box. Neglecting friction, what is the mass of the box?
