Peter has found an article about blogs for a project. Read it carefully.
A blog is an Internet website that is usually maintained by a person. A person who
writes blogs is called a ‘blogger’. A blog contains a number of entries about many different
things, such as commentaries, descriptions of events, photos, videos, or useful links. People
can visit and make comments on other bloggers’ work.
The modern ‘blog’ came form online diaries. People wrote about their personal lives
regularly on the Internet. As early as 1994, a student in America started writing about his
personal life and publishing the contents on the Internet. He is one of the earliest bloggers.
However, the word ‘blog’ did not appear until April or May in 1999. At that time, a man
called Peter Merholz decided to break the ‘weblog’ into two words, ‘web blog’. Since then,
the word ‘blog’ started to be used by people all over the world. There are millions of blogs on
the Internet.
A blog usually contains words, pictures and links to other blogs or web pages. Bloggers
can talk about their lives, thoughts and feelings on the Internet. Their readers are able to leave
comments about each blog entry. Therefore, bloggers and readers can communicate easily.
At first, blogs were only personal online diaries. However, now we can see all kinds of
blogs which talk about different things. There are travel blogs, fashion blogs, music blogs,
film blogs and many others. These blogs gather people who have the same interests, and
provide information that they are interested in.
