documentation.

What is Compliance documentation?

Compliance documentation consists of criminal history clearances, appropriate immunisation and PCI screening, completion of the student
deed poll, hand hygiene, basic life support and manual handling training.

How are placements allocated?

Placements are managed by applying random allocation based on the distance from home attribute, to assist students with travel, however
there are no guarantees students will get their preferred venue. Often there are more students than places available at a desired location
and a maximum commute of 90 minutes each way is not considered unreasonable.

Can I request a specific placement block?

Students are randomly assigned to the ‘required number’ of placement blocks each year however, students must ensure their availability for
‘all’ placement blocks listed on the placement planner. This is because placement block allocation is ‘subject to change’ to manage placement
shortages accordingly.

Do students have choice?

BNURS & MCN students are given the opportunity to advise their preferred rural location and all final year nursing students preference in
final year blocks (if/where possible) these are the only instances where students preference placement however, there are no guarantees
students will get their preferred venue. Often there are more students than places available at a desired location.

What orientation and training is required prior to placement?

Every placement site will provide some type of orientation this is often conducted upon arrival or in some cases prior to arrival via on-line
modules or in person. Students are also required to complete Sunrise training, a patient records system used at some of the major SA Health
hospitals. The Placement Team will work with students to achieve this.

Where can I find the details related to my placement?

Placement information and associated details are provided in Sonia. You will find directions, start times, contact person and your assigned
Clinical Lecturer.

Is rural placement compulsory?

Yes, all students are required to attend a rural allocation once during their degree.

Does the University assist with rural placement costs?

No, all costs associated with rural placement are paid for by the student however, the Placement Team do register students with the
Department of Rural Health (DRH). DRH may be able to assist with financial support, accommodation however, there are no guarantees.

Who approves the placement schedules and allocations?

All allocations are reviewed and approved by the Clinical Lecturers and the Program Coordinator where necessary.

Are changes to placement possible?

No, however if a student has any concerns about their ability to attend placement the Placement Team must be contacted in the first instance
cpteam@adelaide.edu.au. The University’s Modified Arrangements for Coursework Assessment eligibility criteria, which includes Medical,
Compassionate and Extenuating Circumstances, will be referenced to assist with a determination in consultation with the Clinical Lecturers
and the Program Coordinator. Students will be advised of the outcome via email.

What if I require Make-up hours?

Make-up will be offered to students that have had significant absence from placement for reasons outlined in the Modified Arrangements for
Coursework Assessment. Absences from placement is managed by students and reviewed by the Clinical Lecturers via timesheets and may
require the student to complete a non-attendance form/provide evidence.

It is important to note that only a small percentage of change requests and allocation to make-up are approved each year due to the significant
effort undertaken in the initial allocation process.
