The family has many basic functions .one of these is child bearing. In some
societies this function is considered essential. In many cases, if the wife does
not bear a son, the stability of the family is destroyed in most cases, it is
assumed that the wife is at fault and may be divorced for not fulfilling her
function. Such conclusions may be scientifically not necessary but are very real
in their social consequence.
Once a child has been born, it must be brought up. so child bearing is the
second function of the family and it is a prolonged and difficult task. The
newborn child to be reared into a mature and responsible member of the society.
Child rearing includes the tasks of providing for the child’s material needs such
as food, shelter, clothing. Teaching him to establish relationship with adults and
others of its own age, leading him to see his position in the society and helping
him to develop emotionally.

My first day at secondary school was on the 12th of September 2005. On


that Monday morning I went with my parents to the accounting officer to
pay my school fees, levies and also pay money for my school uniform
which I put on immediately. I was very happy because I would be called
a secondary school girl. Parents left me and I joined other new students.
We were introduced to our various classes.

I looked like the smallest girl out of all the jss1 students but in did not
allow that to bother me. I saw new faces, met new friends and I was
happy. But in was not totally happy because my primary school friends
were not in my class. Our new class teacher led us to our class. Her name
is Mrs Loveth. She told us to work hard and not be lazy. To keep our
class, clean at all times. we all introduced ourselves to our teacher. I was
very happy because our class teacher was a lady who we can always call
upon whenever we had problems, in the school.

After that, a teacher took us around the school and showed us around the
school and showed us some places like the chemistry lab, agriculture lab,
and home economics laboratory, the administrative block, the assembly
hall, the toilets, the library, and the computer laboratory. I was fascinated
by the beautiful buildings around.
