Lesson Plan Format

A. PERSONAL INFORMATION

Subject: English. Grade: 1st year.

School: UNAN-Managua. Time: 45 minutes.

Teachers: Wendy Tatiana Obregón. Lesson 4: Articles an/a.

Geovana Rachell Murillo.

Unit 1: Classroom objects.

B. PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
a. Students will be able to identify the meaning of the different objects in
classroom through pictures and simple sentences using articles an/a.
b. Students will practice the correct pronunciation of objects in classroom
through simple sentences and indefinite articles.
c. Students will use the correct rules of the indefinite articles for each
statement through pictures and simple sentences using an/a.

C. LEARNING STRATEGIES

Presentation:

The teacher introduces the following pictures about objects in classroom with the
questions: ‘‘What is it?’’ and ‘‘What do you have?’’ which are responded with a
simple sentence using the indefinite articles. After, students have seen the
pictures, teacher says the correct pronunciation of these words, questions, and
simple sentences. (8 minutes)
What is it? It is a pen.
What do you have? I have a pen.
What is it? It is an eraser.
What do you have? I have an eraser.

What is it? It is a glue.


What do you have? I have a glue.

What is it? It is a backpack.


What do you have? I have a backpack.

What is it? It is an apple.


What do you have? I have an apple.

What is it? It is an orange. What do you have?


I have an orange.

The teacher explains and writes on the board different rules by the use of the
indefinite articles an/a. (10 minutes)

Rule

Positive statement

Subject + verb + article + noun

1. I want an apple.
2. I need a pen.
3. I want a pear.
Negative statement

Subject + auxiliary verb ‘‘do’’ + not + verb + article + noun

1. I do not want an orange.


2. I do not need a backpack.
3. I do not want an eraser.

Contractions

Subject + auxiliary verb ‘‘do’’ + not + verb + article + noun

1. I don’t want an orange.


2. I don’t need a backpack.
3. I don’t want an eraser.

Yes/No questions

Auxiliary verb ‘‘do’’ + subject + verb + article + noun

1. Do you want an apple?


2. Do you need a glue?
3. Do you want an eraser?
Practice:

Practice activity 1:

The teacher writes words that are presented out of order and the students have to
re-order them appropriately. (5 minutes)

Practice activity 2:

The teacher gives the students a worksheet to practice the lesson they learned. (5
minutes)
Practice activity 3:

Students find the following words in the puzzle about objects in classroom. (5
minutes)
Production:

Students will write 5 sentences using article ‘‘a’’ and 5 sentences using article ‘‘an’’.
(10 minutes)
