‘Born this Way’ Equality Hymn: An Expressivistic Analysis

Music has a significant role in all stages of our lives, from childhood to adulthood. The diverse
messages in songs impact us no matter what music we listen to. Lady Gaga's song "Born This
Way" is uplifting and thought-provoking music packed with beautiful implications. The subject
matter of the song is self-love as well as equality. Lady Gaga sends multiple messages to her
audience in this song: be yourself, everyone is beautiful in their own way, and do not be ashamed
of your flaws.
The singer Lady Gaga begins her song with a personal story or tale. She recalls, "When I was a
little girl, my mother always told me that we were all born superstars. In the first stanza, "She
rolled my hair and put my makeup on in the glass of her boudoir," she describes how she did
both things. Gaga talks about her upbringing and the various things that she went through when
she was growing up. Gaga's self-confidence suffered as a direct result of the ridicule she
endured, both for her appearance and for her aspirations to become a successful performer. She
is able to connect with the audience because she uses a personal tale, and this is because most
moms tell their children when they are little that they will grow up to be someone spectacular. In
addition, she employs the theme "Be yourself" in her song lyrics to motivate and encourage the
audience. This message is conveyed in several different ways during this song's lyrics;
nevertheless, the words that demonstrate this point most clearly and convincingly are, "Don't

cares about and supports the LGBTQ community. This song is dedicated to that community's
members to demonstrate equality. When Lady Gaga states, "A different lover is not a sin," she is
making an allusion. The words "believe" and "H-I-M" are capitalized in verse two. She is
referring to the widespread notion that being homosexual is forbidden in various religions. In this
instance, she argues that it is not a sin and that all we need to do is trust in God. This
demonstrates that Lady Gaga still believes in God even though she is not heterosexual and that
some people view her sexuality as a crime. The lyrics "Whether you're broke or evergreen,
you're black, white, beige, Chola descent, you're Lebanese, you're Orient… Rejoice and love
yourself today" demonstrate her belief in equality. These lyrics speak to the issue of equality by
affirming that everyone is equal and beautiful in their own way. They also state that it is not
wrong to love someone of your own gender since love is love and does not discriminate based on
a person's gender, race, religion, or age because, at our core, we are all the same.
Lady Gaga emphasizes her points in her songs by employing the literary device of repetition.
The chorus line, "I'm beautiful in my way. For God makes no mistakes," stands out the most
among the numerous repeated lines in the song. She repeats this statement throughout the song to
convey the idea that everyone should be proud of who they are. Lady Gaga may not be perfect in
some people's eyes, but the fact that she is confident and acknowledges that she is beautiful in
her own way demonstrates that she is proud of herself. We should all take a lesson from her
example and not allow the opinions of others to dictate how much pride we have in ourselves.
