Amazon
1. What are the sustainable business practices of Amazon
based on the given case?

- The sustainable business practices of Amazon based on the

given case are The North Face, and Better World Books.
Amazon contributes $5 million in Amazon products
worldwide to individuals in need, including 8,200 computers
to Seattle Public Schools pupils who did not have access to a
device at home when the pandemic hit. Amazon donated
about US$23 million (about €21 million) to help individuals
in Europe who were most impacted by the COVID-19
outbreak. The creator of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, gave Feeding
America $100 million. This is similar to what The North
Face does. For literacy programs, Better World Books has
raised millions of dollars and funded hundreds of jobs. In a
similar vein, Amazon also hired 175,000 full- and part-time
workers and is collaborating with food banks in 25 cities
around the US to provide 6 million meals to disadvantaged
and vulnerable communities.

2. What pillars of sustainability are being addressed by

Amazon’s business practices based on the given case?
- Based on the presented case, Social Pillar, Amazon's business
activities address the sustainability pillars (People). Social
sustainability emphasizes the value of interpersonal
relationships as well as sustaining and enhancing social quality
through ideas like cohesiveness, reciprocity, and honesty.
Laws, knowledge, and a common understanding of equality
and rights can all encourage and support it. Citizens' quality of
life, safety, and access to services are therefore guaranteed.
Given that the pandemic is extremely harmful to everyone,
Amazon offers its employees a number of attractive
incentives. They make sure that both their customers and
employees are protected from COVID-19. They give their
employees a one-time, special thank-you bonus of more than
$500 million. Over 150 process modifications have been
implemented by Amazon, ranging from new initiatives like
disinfectant spraying to improved cleaning and social distance
measures. In addition to their existing paid and unpaid time
off choices, any employee who has been diagnosed with
COVID-19 is entitled to up to two (2) weeks of paid time off.
There have been developed substantial COVID-19 testing
facilities. For those with a COVID-19 diagnosis, additional
time off with pay has been made available. Assistance fund
was also established by Amazon for workers who were placed
in quarantine or faced financial difficulty. Amazon made sure
that all delivery equipment, trucks, and phones were cleaned
and sanitized every day, as well as after every delivery
appointment.
