WEBINAR SCRIPT

TITLE: SETTING GOALS FOR SUCCESS

PROGRAM FLOW:

Thank you everyone for being with us here tonight

Now before we start,

May we get your attention

Introducti
i will be discussing setting goal for success concepts and theories

for learning outcome..

students will be able to appreciate the value of setting personal goals and be able to
apply the smart principle in the process

these are the subtopics of this portion of the webinar:

first: introduction of setting goals for success

second: bandura self-efficacy
third: dweck's mindset theory and
lastly: locke's goal setting theory

before i start, i want you to pause for a

minute and think about these questions
what would you want to be in the future
and what are your life goals?

you can write it down on a piece of

paper or you can just pause for a while
and reflect

let's proceed

introduction of setting goal for success

you want so many things to happen in

your life, so many goals and so dreams

but before anything else

you need to know
what would you want to be in the
future and what do you want to achieve

because
it will help you give an overall
perspective that will influence all the decisions
that you will make in the future

so isipin natin halimbawa na

may sarili kang mundo
yung langit
yan yung overall perspective naten
and syempre pag maganda ang panahon maaraw,
goods na goods lumabas, maggala, very lively and upbeat ung mood
whereas pag makulimlim, pag umuulan, diba
it’s blurry, parang mahirap magdrive kase madulas ang daan
kumbaga mahirap inavigate ung buhay naten if blurry ung perspective abt

So you need to learn how to focus on

achieving these goals and dreams
considering the big picture:

your future

to be able to reach these goals and

dreams in life, it is important to have
well-defined steps on how to achieve
these things, and of course you need to
work hard for it, kailangan mong gumalaw hindi pwedeng hanggang imagine lang

goal setting is an essential and

powerful process that will make your
vision,yang iniimagine mo,
into a reality

bandura self-efficacy

one of the most renowned psychologists

albert bandura introduced the concept of
self-efficacy and self-efficacy theory

self-efficacy is the belief in one's

capabilities to achieve a goal or an
outcome

it is the ability to influence events

that affect one's life and control
the way these events are experienced

self-efficacy theory is part of his

social cognitive theory or social
learning theory
which is part of the five major
theoretical perspective and theories of
personality

kaya ayaw nating pagusapan to, and tingin natin nakakatakot yung gusto

kaya mong gawin ano man yung iniisip mong maabot
by managing how u think, how u feel and how u behave.

so let's distinguish students who have

high self-efficacy and students who have
low self-efficacy

for students who have high self-efficacy

they tend to challenge themselves with
difficult tasks

and despite its difficulty he or she is

motivated to achieve these tasks

Self-efficacious students will put effort

to meet their commitments and are more
likely to recover quickly from setbacks

for students with low self-efficacy they

have this belief that they cannot be
successful and ayaw nila magsayang ng pagod doing
an extended effort or they avoid ung mga challenging
tasks

high self-efficacy helps you get your thoughts feelings and emotions under control,
have better grades and set higher goals in school making you feel good all around
and when you feel good about a goal, you're more likely to give it your best effort
So ang tanong
which one r u? r u with high self efficacy or low self efficacy?

gusto mo ba ung nachachallenge ka or

bare minimum lng ung kaya mong ibigay talaga?

Well if u have low self efficacy, well ako rin dati,

And in all honesty, if there’s just a way na u don’t have to study or work to become
But then, we are in the real world and Good things dont come easy. Thats why you have to fight
for the best things in life.
Ayan..

Kaya naman
let’s find out together kung paano nga ba magkaroon ng self efficacy or ng high self efficacy

there are four ways to build self-efficacy

first mastery experience, second social modeling,

third social persuasion, and
fourth states of physiology

first is mastery experience

we have to remember that not all our

attempts to reach for our goals and
dreams will not always have a positive outcome

setbacks are expected

and sometimes failure happens
but this doesn't mean that we should
just give up

your experiences will help you build

resilience through treating failure as a learning
opportunity and chance for you to think
of different approach to achieve your
goals.

Sabe nga sa kanta ni Kelly Clarkson,

What doesn’t kill you makes u stronger

Pumapasok din dito ung pagalala natin

Sa mga times na we’ve succeeded through our
Own hard word and strengths
For example, alalahanin mo ung last time na
So pag ganyan tendency is
We feel more confident when we’re up against the next exam.

pulling from your own experiences of success

has the strongest influence sa self-efficacy mo

second is social modeling

it's important to have role models who you look up to

So observe those who practice high self-efficacy in their lives
and make them as a motivation and inspiration

for bandura it is necessary to draw role

models from one's own social
surroundings

this may be your parents sibling family

member friend classmates and even people
from the internet

so ako, example lang to ah, I know na we may have different political views
but this is just in my own experience,
Si former vice president Madam Leni Robredo,
She was very inspiring for me, kase I used to be a student leader when I was in high
school ,an achiever And may pake ako sa mga social issues,
but then things happened
And I turned out to be a useless bystander, not studying, not even working
Just wasting time and all that
but when I started to listen to madam during the campaign season, and also with the
voluntarism ideology na pinaparating ng kanyang kampanya with her supporters,
it suddenly made me feel hopeful, and she impacted me na parang naalala ko nga na I
used to be someone na may pakialam, na may gusting iambag sa lipunan
and I knew that time na I needed to get up, go back where I left everything, set my goals
and I thought the best way to start
is for me to be successful myself
that’s why im here, continuing my studies. A work in progress.
third is social persuasion

“a mentor empowers a person to see a

possible future and believe it can be obtained”

social persuasion is about having a role

model that directly influence one's
self-efficacy by providing opportunities
to master experience

so this is what we call mentors

mentors are knowledgeable and share

their wisdom to be able to help you
achieve these goals
find the right mentor for you, one who practices what he preaches

helpful feedback and coaching from others

can help your self-efficacy grow stronger
when someone you trust encourages you
by reminding you of your own strengths and abilities
it can help you overcome
your own self-doubt

so the
difference between social modeling and
social persuasion is that social
modeling they do not directly
influence your decisions
in life or in achieving your goals
whereas in social persuasion your
mentors can
impart their knowledge and wisdom, from their experiences, or perhaps their own
failures, their own Never give up moments
for you to be guided
on how to achieve your goals

lastly states of physiology

our emotions, moods and physical state

can influence our interpretation of self-efficacy
positive emotions can help you build
positive insights for high self-efficacy

whereas high tensions and weariness can

contribute to lower self-efficacy

naniwala ka na lng sa sinabe nila and prove them right,
chances are di ka na makakabawi kase di ka na nakafocus e, and that can lead ur team
to defeat

learning how to read your body

and emotions can help you feel more ready to step up to a situation

we all get nervous when we have to do something challenging

but when we read those feelings and emotions in a positive way
such as feeling excited instead of anxious
it helps us think about the situation in a completely different way

having positive emotions and moods builds your self-efficacy

making you feel more optimistic about what's up ahead

the more you become skilled at using these experiences and influences,
yung apatt na diniscuss naten
the more self-efficacy you will build
para mapagtagumpayan ung mga future goals mo,
well it doesn't mean it'll be easy
it just means na naniniwala ka sa sarili mo na kaya mong gawin
kase if u have done it, then u can do it again.

having a high sense of self-efficacy can help increase your sense of agency
self agency  refers to the feeling of control over actions and their consequences.
a high sense of self-efficacy can also help developing self-regulation, growth mindset
and perseverance,making you more likely
to set and stick to challenging goals, motivating you to work hard and succeed
and giving you the courage to try new things.

so next time you're taking on a new challenge remember that believing in yourself is
the first step in taking you to new heights

Now let’s talk about How self efficacy influence our self

COGNITIVE
So it’s about your thinking, dito pa rin papasok ung sinabi natin kanina
Whereas if we are more into positive thinking, parati pa rin tayo magiisip at
makakahanap ng ways on how to deal with things, so ang mangyayari non maaachieve
natin ung goals naten

MOTIVATIONAL
So dito sa motivational, tanong dito is ano yung nagpapamotivate sayo, dito papasok
What are the reasons
It will be a lot easier na igive up na
magpuyat para lang makaabot sa deadlines, ang yet u still do it, now for what?
So u need to ask yourself kung bakit moba talaga ginagawa lahat ng to. There has to be
a reason.

u don’t need to ask if you can do it, u need to ask what is required of you to reach your
goal.

EMOTIONAL

If we plan something and just expect it to be done accordingly and will go smoothly
without considering factors and room for improvements then we will have difficulty to
cope and mawawalan tayo ng gana sa ginagawa if we faced a setbacks along the way
until such time na magqquit na lang tayo. So halimbawa is pag nagpapasa tayo ng mga
projects, or research paper sa mga major subjects natin, we put so much effort into it,
pinagpuyatan natin nang isang lingo only to receive a low grade or revise notice nung
pinasa natin, so u have to have a state of mind na pag nagpasa tayo pedeng papasa,
pede ring hindi and we need to be resilient and open for the possibility na need natin
magulit pa rin or iimprove ung nagawa na natin.

Kase if you always think na “ay hindii alam ko to, di ako magkakamali, di to ibabalik ni
teacher” tas nung binalik pinaparevise, then ur mood will drop and tatamarin ka na kase
sasabihin mo- pinagpuyatan ko to tas ganon lang ung score?
So dapat ay u also learn to accept failures and make sure to learn from them.
Not all the time makukuha natin ang Oo. Just like pag nanliligaw diba, don’t expect na
signals
so don’t assume unless otherwise stated and felt, ika nga.

So u need to be mindful of your own emotions, and sabe nga before you talk, listen,
before you react, think and before you criticize, you wait.

DECISIONAL

So basically it just means that whatever u r experiencing right now, r the product of your
choices. Well not really everything of it kase di naman natin napipili kung ipapanganak
ba tayong mayaman o mahirap or we cannot choose our parents. But what I mean is
when we finally start making our own decisions on how it affects our lives yes, we are the
product of our choices . Your choices, your beliefs, your values, your goals all shape the
world you live in. Yes there are random chance events that can radically change your world.
But over time your CHOICES will improve or degrade your life.

may free will tayo to choose what we believe. May free will tayo to choose to do right or
wrong. May free will tayo to strive for our goal or not.

So if u r a high school student and is not sure of which program or course to take in
college, make sure that u choose something that will align to ur future goals and
something na interesado ka talaga, kase when u love what ur doing, u will excel at it.

YOU ARE FREE TO MAKE WHATEVER CHOICE U WANT,

BUT YOU ARE NOT FREE FORM THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE CHOICE.
dweck's mindset theory

dr carol s dweck is a psychologist from

stanford university
she has been researching into the field
of achievement and success specifically
motivation, personality and development

mindset was defined by dweck

to explain the assumptions methods or
notations held by one or group of people

it represents the cognitive processes

activated in response to a given task

according to dweck individuals act in

accordance to their implicit views of
where ability comes from

so here she introduced

two kinds of mindset the fixed mindset

and the growth mindset

first the fixed mindset before termed as

entity mindset

in this mindset some people believe that

success is based on innate or inborn
ability
so these people believes that
intelligence is fixed

usually they avoid challenges and for

them effort seems to be
fruitless

and second is the growth mindset or the

incremental mindset

they believe that success is based on

their hard work and willingness to
learn

so people believe that training and an

effort to learn can change one's quality

usually these people believe that

intelligence can be developed and they
embrace challenges

so these people are not afraid of failure

SO IKAW, HOW DO YOU VIEW FAILURE?

DO U SEE IT AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO GROW
OR U SEE IT AS THE LIMIT OF YOUR ABILITY?

acquiring a growth mindset is much

better kind of mindset than the fixed mindset
because it attributes success to learning and
continuous practice

so in other words yung mga may fixed mindset is sila ung tingin nila matalino or talented

sa growth mindset, sila yung willing magrisk, na kahit magfail sila they have this state of
mind na process eh, process yun to improve and to grow, being a work in progress
and in his own pace and timeline, the stars will align.

So which type of mindset do you have?

Fixed mindset or growth mindset?

If u need help to findout kung anong mindset ka

U can click on the link sa chat box so u can take the mindset quiz,

https://www.positivityguides.net/test-your-mindset-quiz/

So reflect on yourself and if u have fixed mindset, baguhin natin yan

id like to encourage u, to get out of your comfort zone
BECAUSE THE BEST VERSION OF YOURSELF IS ALWAYS A FEW STEPS AHEAD
Tanong mo pa kay super mario

……

and lastly lockes s goal theory

locke's goal theory was developed by dr

edwin a locke
so the theory says that goals and
intentions drive human behavior and are
determined by values and beliefs

before going through setting specific goals

we need to know what is a goal first

goal is simply defined as what the

individual is consciously trying to do
goals affect behavior
direct attention
and action

it motivates people to develop

strategies that will enable them to
perform at the required goal levels

**nxt slide

setting specific goals generates higher

level of performance than setting vague
goals

let's use an example very known example

and very
known goal for us
the specific goal
is to
lose weight one kilogram per week
then a vague goal is
i will lose some weight, just like that

goals that are more specific, challenging but realistic

and harder to achieve
generally have a positive impact on performance
goal setting theory refers to the
effects of setting goals on subsequent
performance
for example you need to be more specific
in your goal
let's use losing weight again
instead of saying i want to lose some
weight
replace it with
i want to lose one kilo
a week for three months
then specify what you're going to do
example exercise for 30 to 45 minutes
every day except weekends because that's
your rest days probably,

also
stop eating food with high sugar

by setting goals for yourself you stay

motivated

so there are five basic principles of

goal setting and these are
clarity, challenge commitment feedback and
task complexity

first is clarity

clear goals are measurable, unambiguous

and behavioral
when a goal is clear and specific with a
definite time set for completion
there is less misunderstanding about
what behaviors will be rewarded

specific details give a clearer direction to the goal

second: challenge

when setting goals

make each goal a
challenge
people are often motivated by
achievement and they'll judge a goal
based on the significance of the
anticipated accomplishment
And an easy goal is demotivating.

third is commitment

put deliberate effort into meeting a

goal
goal commitment and difficulty
often work together
the harder the goal
the more commitment is required

and an established need to achieve the goal is necessary to gain commitment

fourth feedback

feedback provides opportunities to

clarify expectations, adjust goal difficulty and gain recognition
remember it is better to adjust the difficulty of your goal midway through your timeline
than to entirely give up your goal

feedback helps keep the goal on track

and lastly task complexity

if a goal is complex
ensure that the work doesn't become too
overwhelming,
so give yourself enough time to meet the goal
and to learn what is expected and required for success

So be realistic with the sub-goals and timelines.

GOAL SETTING DRIVES ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION

If you are guided by the five principles stated, u will end up setting
More challenging yeat specific goals.
Kahit mahirap man yan basta specific ung goal,,
As earlier mentioned, the quality of goals drives motivation.
Gaano ba kalaki ung pangarap natin?
So this often results to the achievement of desired outcomes.
WEBINAR:

Kamusta naman kayo? Nagenjoy ba kayo mga bata?

Ayann medyo energize na tayo noh, ayan

so yung iba sa inyo probably nagtatanong

Kung ano connection nyang bring me sa topic natin? Diba mukhang wala? Well wala naman talaga, de
joke.

So actually we asked u guys to bring pen and notebook kase we’ll move on to our next topic which is
how to consciously design your life and later on we’ll have an activity using the pen and paper.

Ayan so again

How to consciously design your life?

So many of the adults wake up, when they're 20 or 30 or 40 or 50 and realized.. we don't even know
why got here or how we're here and
***we know for sure that this is not where I wanted to be
or where we wanted to be years and years ago.

***

Now in this webinar, I'd like to discuss a very effective way for not only scripting the direction of your life
but also how we can reinvent our own life and consciously create it.

I think Designing your life and making go forward in the direction you wanted to be has three parts

***

and the very first part is the DESIGN or the plan you envision in your mind of what u want for your
future to be

the second part is the HABITS, it’s the things you use or you do in a daily basis
and the third is the FOLLOW THROUGH or in other words, how will u stay on track

when you get off track because half of the game of goal achievement is purely when you get punched in
the face, then what are you gonna do differently to get back up and get back in the fight

***

VISION.

IF YOU WANT TO DESIGN YOUR LIFE, YOU HAVE TO HAVE VISION. Coz it's basically the design.

You know if you just sit down for a day, you drink a cup coffee, you get on a piece of paper and you write
down:

***what would be the coolest thing that could happen over the next five years of my life

If you just do that, you're already ahead of 99% of humanity who show up with no game plan, no vision
for the future, no clue what they want to create besides probably - i would like more money, i'd like
that girl or guy, or i'd like to purchase a better phone or whaterver,

***BUT there's almost no consciousness or conscious energy driving their goal

and it got me thinking KUNG ANO BA TALAG? ANO BA TALAGANG FUTURE ANG GUSTO KONG BUOIN?

LIKE what CONSCIOUSLY and CONCRETELY do I want to improve?

***So for me the way that I do that is first of all,

I have a journal where I'm regularly writing down updates for the kind of life that i want to build,

it starts with the Vision dba?

***which makes me think of the fact that these skyscrapers, these amazing inventions, it alll started
with a picture in somebody's head, and so did spaceships, right? and so is in curing a difficult disease, or
creating a vaccine to mitigate the pandemic.

SO NAKAKAAMAZE LANG NA UNG MGA BAGAY NA MERON TAYO NGAYON NA PROBABLY IT BRINGS
COMFORT SA BUHAY ATIN PERO DI LANG NATIN NAPAPANSIN, ARE ACTUALLY PRODUCTS OF
IMAGINATION NG MGA INVENTORS AND SCIENTISTS

so pag naiisip ko yan, i always make sure that when I have a goal, I have to consciously create it.

So I write them down both in print journals and in a piece of document

that I call " five years from today”

so pag new year

may mga bagay ako na ginagamit for my yearly envisioning…

***one, every start of the year I write down dun sa document - what's the coolest thing that could
happen this year?

like iniisip ko sya as a perfect year, no limitations, no 'realistic, realistic' no, but what would be the
coolest thing that could happen?

So again sinusulat ko sya in one piece of paper that's always on my desk every single day and I review it
twice per day, kase nanjan lang sya parati kong pwede makita

Now from there, that yearly document also has my daily habits, the unique projects or activities I'm
working on in each quarter of the year,

as well as the things I know that I need to work para maimprove ko ung sarili ko

the second thing naman for my yearly envisioning

***is the pocket journal i carry around,

this for me is always to record.. things that may change about my thinking,

THE ideas I get when I read or listen to songs or podcasts as well as little intuitive hunches that come up
in my head

so if I'm talking to a friend or I'm reading a

book, or watching a netflix series and my mind just went ***ting! I'm like wow that would be an
awesome idea

i write it down in this little book that i always carry around with me and then day by day I can flip
through that, and be like, you know what, these were those cool things I wanted to basically manifest
and create in my own life/

let me just keep a note of them

***the last way i do that is by doing a weekly journal page, parang diary lang but on a weekly basis mo
sya susulatan tas may nakalagay na: Where are you self? Dba may goal ka? Nasan ka na don sa goal mo?
and are those habits na ginagawa mo everyday, sufficient ba sila to actually get you there to your goal,

so the whole point of this journal page is REFLECTION, you wanna do this to know if u r still on track and
if not- ano ung mga kailangan mong baguhin?

***I also do all this by keeping a note in my phone, that's just says

".. five years from today."

now i really don't stick to that idea of five years from today, but the point is where do i want to go? in
what direction?

for us na nandito sa webinar perhaps about taking certifications, an honor student, a cum laude, being a
topnotcher in the board exams, taking my second degree, being hired in a high paying job, etcetra

I put all of that down, but I don't know how I'm gonna make it happen yet

but it will happen for sure

I haven't quite fleshed out the process

***but the point is that you're putting trajectories in your brain and in your subconscious

visual: notes arrow to brain

and when

you check ung mga notes mo every once in a while

and ull be reminded na like oh yeah I knew I wanted to do that, now let me see what are the things
achievable at this moment and make plans to make it happen.

/and almost all of those things na lilist down naten, it will come true for especially if you regularly review
the notes

***

The habits

now the second piece here on how to design your life is your habits

dalily habits are the daily action steps that you're gonna actually do, to make that goal a reality.,.

so there's a simple philosophy that i want to impart, we have briefly discussed this on goal setting theory
earlier but we wanna make sure it stays with you

*** so here it is

the point is that you think about the goals you want to reach

and then you have to break them down,

Forget the goal but break it down into a daily habit

so with Fitness, for example, you forget losing 30 pounds

the habit is cook every day go to the gym OR exercise 20 minutes

or with your grades, you want to graduate with latin honors or with high honors, you forget about that
and the habit is strictly following a daily schedule that is about study-life balance.

but before getting that long term goal done, ask yourself if will you be happy once you achieve that, are
you building the life you want, or is your ladder up against the right wall as the saying goes

because you might climb the wrong ladder of success and later realize you climbed the wrong ladder
and you're not where you want to be

so it's about conscious goal setting and being crystal clear on the path forward, making sure you're going
down the right path you want to be down

so going back, you'd like to achieve a goal and the best way to start is by doing 3 habits per goal

for example, you've only been sleeping five hours a night and you want to change that

so your daily ritual that may have to be is

"I'm gonna disconnect from the computer at 11, im not gonna have a coffee after 6pm, im not gonna
stress my self with homeworks and i will give up some time from playing games.

so it may take a few habits

or again if u want to achieve high grades, u'll dedicate an extra one hour for self-study or u’ll be
organized with ur note taking, attending all your classes and becoming an active listener during lectures.
lastly is the follow through, ...

//

So we usually set this very big goals, lalong lalo na pag new year diba gusto natin magkaroon ng

New years’ resolution, excited tayo sa mga gusto nating iachieve, gusto natin magpapayat, o gusto
nating magipon diba? Oo nagagawa natin sya, but then after 30 days sometimes di pa nga aabot ng
buwan, nagsisimula na tayo magkaroon ng inconsistency and then several months later we just
completely abandon our goals.

And fast forward, next year ganon ulit mangyayare. So nagseset tayo ng same goals each year pero di
natin talaga naaaccomplish, di tayo nagiging consistent..

Im pretty sure nangyayare din to sainyo, pero bakit? Bakit paulit ulit?

Now, I’ve discovered out that there’s actually a SCIENTIFIC reason as to why this is happening…
and I want u to feel the relief na hindi mo kasalanan kung bakit.

So in one amazing research done by hal hershfield at UCLA, ang ginawa nya gusto nya malaman kung
ano ba nangyayare sa utak ng tao when thinking about our goals

So first nilagay nya ung mga participants sa FMRI and he asked them 3 different task, so habang nasa
fmri machine, nakatingin sya sa brain, and first task is sabe nya

Think about yourself

Pangalawa sabe nya I want u to think of your favorite celebrity, someone that u like to watch, someone
that u maybe look up to

And third one, is I want u to think about yourself in 10 years so sino ka at ano ang ginagawa mo sa year
2022 ayan

And this is what he found out we use the same part of our brain for task two and three.

In other words, pag iniisip natin sarili natin, that’s one part of the brain na gumagana
Pag iniisip naman natin ung future, that’s a different part ng brain naten, and that is the
When we think
about our idols, famous people. What this means is we idealize our future selves.
That when we're thinking about how we can be in the next year or five
years or ten years
we actually think of ourselves as a better version of ourselves
this is why we end up getting stuck with the same goals

or why we set goals that we cant stick with seven days later, 20 days later or 30 days later

is because when we are setting the goals

we are not thinking about how we would act

we're thinking about the best version of our self would act,

that when we think about our future self, we’re thinking about
this amazing, positive almost role model version of ourselves
and so we set goals without our current self in mind
which is why we can't stick with them and
which is why we break them

SO if you've had trouble setting goals in the past

it's not your fault
it's because you're using a mindset
that's thinking about an idealized version of yourself

So ngayon, I would like u turn ur attention sa diagram na nasa screen,

It’s what we call THE goal wheel,
Now ang goal naten is to make sure na we set specific goals, assess ourselves kung
nasan ba tayo ngayon in terms of these fields…
Business/ school
Frieds
Family
Personal passions
spiritual
it’s the way we bridge our current self and our future self
so on the goal wheel there are six different areas of our life,
A one on this scale means you are very
dissatisfied unhappy didn't like where it was going didn't feel good about that section of
your life,
a five, a full five means you were very happy very satisfied
***so use these guide questions to answer the goal wheel

have 1s or 2s that should be ur priority in making it better for 2023.
So let’s do that and by the end of the year 2023 let’s look back ano and answer the goal
wheel again and compare it and see if lumiit ba ung bilog o lumaki,
We want to do this because we want to have visual framework para sa goals natin at
alam natin kung saan magfofocus kase u can’ t really boost them all at the same time,
Kase every new year kung ano n lang maisipan nating goals dba so with this, at least
we’ll have an idea on which area we should focus on so we can achieve a better version
of ourselves.
