Introductory Message
For the facilitator:
This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators both
from public and private institutions to assist you, the teacher or facilitator in helping the
learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their
personal, social, and economic constraints in schooling.
As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module. You
also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage their
own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist the learners as
they do the tasks included in the module.

For the learner:

This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for
guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be helped to
process the contents of the learning resource while being an active learner.

The following are some reminders in using this module:

1. Use the module with care. Do not put unnecessary mark/s on any part of the
module. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercises.
2. Don’t forget to answer Let’s Try before moving on to the other activities included
in the module.
3. Read the instruction carefully before doing each task.
4. Observe honesty and integrity in doing the tasks and in checking your answers.
5. Finish the task at hand before proceeding to the next.
6. Return this module to your teacher/facilitator once you are through with it.
If you encounter any difficulty in answering the tasks in this module, do not hesitate
to consult your teacher or facilitator. Always bear in mind that you are not alone.
We hope that through this material, you will experience meaningful learning and
gain deep understanding of the relevant competencies. You can do it!

Let’s Explore

Plot the following data on the graph and answer the question below

0 0
100 10
200 20

6
200 30
300 40
400 50
500 60

1. What is the average speed at t=20 seconds? __________

2. What is the average speed at t=30 seconds? __________
3. What is the average speed at t=40 seconds? __________
4. What is the average speed at t=50 seconds? ________
5. What is the average speed at t=60 seconds? ________

Let’s Elaborate

Describing the motion of an object is sometimes hard to do with words. Sometimes graphs
help make it easier to picture and therefore understand. The graphical representation of this gives
an informative visual representation of two quantities. It makes it easy to see if changes in one
variable cause changes in the other variable.

DISTANCE-TIME GRAPH shows how far an object has

traveled in a given time. It is a simple line graph that denotes
distance versus time findings on the graph.

Time is a plot on the X-axis. (bottom of the graph). The further

to the right on the axis, the longer the time from the start.

Distance is plotted on the Y-axis (side of the graph) the higher

up the graph, the further from the start.
7
In this graph, time is increasing to the right, but its distance
does not change the object that is not moving is at rest. If an
object is not moving, a horizontal line is shown on a distance-
time graph.

In this graph, time is increasing to the right, and distance is

increasing constantly with time. The object moves at a constant
speed, Constant speed is shown by a straight line on a graph.
If an object is moving at a constant speed, it means it has the
same increase in distance in a given time.

In this graph, the object is moving forward with increasing

speed. The line on this graph is curving upwards shows an
object is increasing its speed. Then the line is getting steeper if
the object is accelerating.

SPEED-TIME GRAPH shows the speed and direction an

object travels over a specific time. Speed-time graphs are also
called Velocity-Time. The Speed-Time looks much like
Distance-Time Graph. Be sure to read the labels.

Time is always plotted on the X-axis. (bottom of the graph) and

Speed or Velocity is plotted on the Y-axis (side of the graph)

In this speed-time graph a straight horizontal line means that

the object speed is constant. It is not changing over time. A
straight line does not mean that the object is not moving.

8
b

In this speed-time graph, a straight diagonal line shows that the

object is increasing its speed. The moving object is
accelerating.

In this speed-time graph, a straight diagonal line shows that

the object is decreasing its speed. The moving object is
decelerating.

Let’s Dig In
