Alcantara - Module 10 - 2ged SS-03
As for me, museums have played an integral role in preserving the history of our
society. The exhibits in the museums tell us stories about how our nation, our communities,
and our cultures came to be and without them, those stories could be forgotten. Furthermore,
museums are a wonderful place to take children for both fun and learning. Museums possess
what the classroom may not, thus, stepping outside of the classroom to further expand on the
students' knowledge is crucial to developing our younger generations. A student may leave a
museum inspired to become a scientist, a leader, a musician, a painter, or a writer. However,
in the digital age, for some, museums do seem to be less relevant. With museum attendance
in a steady decline for years, it is now more important than ever to re-establish themselves to
bring in new and past visitors. As the world moves forward in this era of digital information,
museums everywhere must embrace technology to survive and continue sharing art, culture,
history, and technology with the world. Also, as someone who still hasn't been to a museum,
I would love to explore these places. Though I can be in a museum virtually, for me, it's even
more priceless seeing things with my own eyes.
Engaging Activity
Activity 1:
Direction: Please answer the question below.
1. Recall your visit to any of the museums you have been to and list all of the things you have
seen and describe their importance.
I haven't been to a museum, thus, for this activity, I decided to interview someone I know
that was been in a museum. His name is Niño Roel Balaba, a first-year college student at
Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) taking up a Bachelor of
Science in Philosophy. According to him, he was been at Balanghay Museum located in
Butuan City. This was when he was still in daycare and it was their field trip activities. The
following are the things that he had seen and their importance respectively:
• jars
• skeletons
According to Ñino, the jars are important as it gives credence to the idea that even before,
our ancestors have already a sense of artistry. This supports the idea that civilization is not
new to them. Furthermore, with regards to the skeletons, its importance is for a scientific
inquiry like genetic sequencing and carbon dating.
