What is the role of Indian
Institute of Architects (IIA)

?
Indian Institute of Architects (IIA)
▪ The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) is the National body
of Architects in the country.

1. established in 1917,as "The Architectural Students


Association".
2. 1922, it was rechristened(renamed) 'Bombay Architectural
Association',
3. associated with the Royal Institute of British Architects in
1925,
4. 1926 became a National body

▪ 12 4 ,000 members

▪ plays major role in promoting profession of Architecture by


organizing and uniting the Architects of India

▪ It promotes aesthetic, scientific and practical efficiency of


the profession both in Practice and in Education.

Architecture

Council of Architecture
▪ The practice of the architectural profession is regulated by
the Architects Act, 1972,

▪ The Council of Architecture has prescribed the Conditions


of Engagement and Scale of Charges under the Architects
(Professional Conduct) Regulations, 1989.

▪ The statutory duties of –Council of Architecture

▪ Registration of Architects

▪ Prescribing norms/ minimum standards for Architectural


education

▪ Regulating the professional conduct of Registered
