Scene 2.
TOM
(Still starring at the TV) What kind of
places are hiring?
RICK
Restaurants, Café’s, I’d prefer a shop or
something where u just stand and don’t really
talk to anyone.
TOM
Sounds dead, we might be hiring at subway, I
can ask Dom if u could get in interview.
RICK
Thanks, but I don’t really wanna work with
food and lots of customers.
TOM
(sniffs) Yeah alright, keep hunting then.
Rick stays quiet, still flicking through the
notebook.
RICK
I’m going to bed I’ll see you tomorrow.
TOM
Yeah ok.
Rick lies in bed with his hand on his chest
starring up at the ceiling. A clock ticks in
the background. The opacity fades and we see
him walking around the dark streets holding
a gun out in front of him and a gunshot
which transitions back to him lay in bed. He holds
his head in his hands and turns on his side.
Scene 3.
EXT. HIGHSTREET - DAY
Rick walks around with the same baseball cap and
hoodie as the other day. He has his hands in his
pockets, his hood up over his cap. He walks into a
shop and buys a newspaper. He walks down the street
quickly, with the newspaper under his arm. As he gets
to a crossing sees a poster on the traffic light
pole. His wanted poster; a sketch of him with a
fedora and dark glasses on. The poster reads “WANTED,
Probable cause to be stopped and questioned” Rick
clutches the poster and looks at it hard holding it
close to his face. He pears over his shoulders and in
all direction with quick skittish motions. He shoves
the poster in his pocket and darts off across the
street.
INT. RICK’S APARTMENT – DAY
He flicks through the paper looking for jobs and
putting rings around ones he would want to apply for,
the wanted poster is lay on the table next to the
paper. He soon stumbles across a job for an over the
phone salesman. He immediately runs to his home phone
and dials the number. The phone rings for a moment
before a grumpy voice picks it up.
EMPLOYMENT MANAGER
Yes, how can I help you?
RICK
Yeah hi, I saw your ad in the
paper, and I am very interested
in the position.
EMPLOYMENT MANAGER
Right, can I take a name?
RICK
(He thinks for a moment) Mike Wesowski.
EMPLOYMENT MANAGER
(Typing on a keyboard) Ok, place of
residence?
RICK
21 Tatiana’s flat, RG9 1BG.
EMPLOYMENT MANAGER
You are aware we are based in London.
RICK
Yes, that’s why it being over the phone
piqued my interest.
EMPLOYMENT MANAGER
Right, I was thinking more about you
getting over here for an interview.
RICK
(He pulls a face of disappointment) Well
do you have an email I could contact you
on?
EMPLOYMENT MANAGER
Yes.
RICK
So I could give you my CV and
bank details via that? Your
customers only need to hear me
over the phone. Do you need more than my
voice to decide if I’m right for the
job?
EMPLOYMENT MANAGER
Hmm…(He pauses for a moment) Ok Mick,
you gotta pen?
RICK
(Pulls his notebook and a pen from his
pocket) yup.
EMPLOYMENT MANAGER
Email is ezsales@yahoo.com
Rick scribbles the email down into his
notebook.
RICK
I will send them through now. Thank you,
sir, what was your name?
EMPLOYMENT MANAGER
Rick.
RICK looks shocked, he looks around and
takes a deep breathe before slamming the
phone down. He then goes on the computer
and sends over his CV. He waits by the
phone wearily, then suddenly it rings.
Rick eagerly picks it up.
RICK
Mike speaking.
EMPLOYMENT MANAGER
We’d be happy to have you Mike, ill
email you shortly with the phone book
and our list of products.
RICK
Thank you, sir. I need this.
Rick slowly puts down the phone and lets
out a sigh of relief.
Scene 4.
INT. RICK’S APARTMENT - NIGHT
Title card reads “9:48”
RICK
Ok sir, you wanted the 24 hour digital
alarm clock in green is that correct.
(pause) Alright I’ve put your order in
now and that will be shipped to you with
4-5 working days (pause) alright, bye-
bye.
Rick hangs up the phone and sits in his
chair holding his hands on his chin. He
pulls the wanted poster in front of him
on the desk and peers down at it.
CUT TO – INT. BATHROOM MIRROR
Rick stares into the mirror, moving his face from
side to side and holding the wanted poster next to
his face. He takes a deep breath, puts his hood up,
and walks out into the darkness. He walks the dark
empty backstreets alone. After a short time, he turns
a corner where he is greeted with red and blue lights
flashing, headlights shinning in his direction and
the sound of radios crackling and people speaking
through them. Rick immediately turns back around the
corner and stands against it panting. He peers around
the wall and is pleased to find that the police
didn’t see him and are in fact tending to another
investigation. He closes his eyes tight and holds his
head in his hands panting frantically. He runs home
quickly and doesn’t look back. He gets home slams to
the door shut and crouches down and curls up into a
ball by the front door.
Scene 5.
INT. RICK’S BEDROOM – MIDDAY
He wakes up and stares at the ceiling, he brushes his
teeth and has breakfast. He procrastinates instead of
starting work; the phone rings throughout his
procrastination but he simply looks at it and ignores
it. He eventually nods off and wakes up later at
night. He opens his phone and finds a text message
from a couple of hours ago.
(text message) BOSS
We’ve sent your monthly wage through.
Rick opens his bank account to find a monthly wage of
a measly £150, he runs his hand through his hair and
exhales loudly. He becomes angry and wipes the phone
off the table.
RICK
£150!? For a fucking months’ work! What a
joke!
He sits down on the sofa with slumped shoulder and
turns on the TV, the light from the TV highlights his
emotionless expression. Suddenly his mobile phone
rings. He picks it up wearily, confused as to who
would be calling him at that time.
RICK
Hello?
UNKNOWN CALLER
You sure you’re out?
Rick stands there shocked with his head bowed and his
eyes closed; he opens them and looks around
aimlessly. He shakes his head and then looks up and
responds.
RICK
I thought I told you to stay away from me.
What the fuck do you want?
UNKNOWN CALLER
What does it matter what I want,
you need money, do you not?
RICK
Maybe I do, but I’m wanted, one wrong move
and I’m behind bars.
UNKNOWN CALLER
You may be wanted, but they wouldn’t dream of
taking you in, not with me keeping a keen eye
on you.
Rick puts the phone down on the sofa with the caller
still on the line, he runs his hand through hair and
his knee starts to twitch. He snatches the phone back
up from the sofa.
RICK
How can you guarantee that.
UNKNOWN CALLER
You know I have my ways, and you know that
you trust me. Complete me this job and I will
make it worth your while.
RICK
(hesitantly) fine, who?
UNKNOWN CALLER
Get to my office, I’ll give you everything
needed for this job. Don’t let anyone see you
and bring your weapon.
The caller hangs up, rick goes to the mirror
and stares into it one last time before
storming off out of the bathroom and goes to a coat
hook and takes off a black fedora. He opens a draw
and finds a pair of dark aviator shades.
George Bondo Instrumental PLAYS
He puts on the disguise and then opens a wardrobe, he
takes it out and opens it. Inside is a fairly large
hand gun, he quickly tucks it into the back of his
waistband before rolling his clothes over the gun and
walking out of the door.
