Introduction
Death Note is an extremely well-known and beautifully written body of work that
started publishing back in the year 2003. It was written and drawn by the now famous
Tsugumi Ohba, who also wrote other manga like Platinum End and Blue Literature.
However, Death Note was a manga like no other. It was a manga that was serialized by
Shueisha magazines and catered toward teenage audiences, primarily ages 16-25,
therefore it was published as a shonen manga (‘shonen’ is a Japanese term that
translates to young adults)
The story follows an intellectually gifted genius named Light Yagami, the smartest
student in the entirety of Japan. He seems to be bored of the mundane and monotonous
life that he keeps on living. He constantly notices the rise in crime, the sadistic nature
of the society, and finds nothing but contempt toward the individuals responsible for it.
