TOPIC: SKILL: AI

INVESTIGATIVE PROJECT- PART B. IMPLEMENTATION

STATEMENT: My mother bought avocadoes from the market. She was told by the vendor to wrap a few
in newspaper, as it will cause the avocadoes to ripe faster.

HYPOTHESIS: To determine if wrapping silk figs (avocados) in newspaper helps it ripe faster.

AIM TO DETERMINE IF NEWSPAPERS HELPS IN THE RIPENING OF SILK FIGS (AVOCADOS)

APPARATUS: 1. SILK FIGS (AVOCADOS)

2. NEWSPAPER

3. SCALE

4. MARKERS

PROCEDURE:

1. Six silk figs (avocados) were procured and weighed.

2. Three of the silk figs (avocados) were uniformly wrapped with newspaper.

3. The remaining silk figs (avocados) were left unwrapped.

4. A marker was used to label the wrapped and unwrapped silk figs (avocados). There were two of each,
labeled "A," "B," and "C."

5. The wrapped and unwrapped silk figs (avocados) were left for six days.

6. Observations were made and recorded every two days.

7. A table with the recorded observations was displayed.

RESULTS: (For your table, fill in information and use four lines for each. Use one page for one table each)

DISCUSSION: (Answer all questions in paragraphs)

1. Explain the ripening process.

2. What gas does avocadoes produce while ripening. Explain how different the ripening process is
compared to avocados on a tree.

3. Describe the nutritional value of avocados.

4. What are other fruits that can be wrapped like avocado to achieve similar results.

CONTROLLED VARIABLES:

1. The mass of silk figs (avocados).

2. The time frame in which the silk figs (avocados) were allowed to ripen.

LIMITATIONS:

1. Availability of silk figs (avocados) at the time required for the lab.

2. Silk figs or tomatoes were substituted for avocados due to the then-exorbitant price of avocados.

3. Because of the various types used, certain fruits may ripen faster than others (both wrapped and
unwrapped).

PRECAUTIONS:

1. The silk figs (avocados) were wrapped in the same quantity of newspaper, ensuring even distribution.

2. Prior to usage, the silk figs (avocados) were examined for flaws, blights, and bug holes.

3. The silk figs (avocados) were checked to make sure they weren't already ripe but were still in the early
stages of ripening.

4. Every single one of the silk figs (avocados) was purchased on the same day.

5. To acquire valid results, the experiment was conducted on all the silk figs (avocados) at the exact
same time.

SOURCES OF ERROR:

1. There may be a chance that a few of the silk figs (avocados) have already started to ripen.

2. Finding and obtaining local produce would have been difficult.

3. When the silk figs (avocados) were not gathered from a single tree, the ripening process was
impeded.

4. The ethylene emissions would have been released when the avocados were unwrapped during the
observing process.
TREATMENT:

If the investigation project was successful, the knowledge might be shared with my mother, who
typically prepares meals at home, and some other relatives.

CONCLUSION:

In conclusion, it was determined that silk figs (avocados) ripen much faster while wrapped compared to
ones that are unwrapped.
