Circuits

1. Draw a series circuit with the following components

• Battery with 6V
• Lamp 1 and Lamp 2
• Ammeter trying to measure current in Lamp 1
• Voltmeter trying to measure voltage in Lamp 2

2. Draw a parallel circuit with following components.

• Cell with 3V
• Two Branches (Branch 1 and Branch 2)
• 2 Lamps (Label 1&2) on Branch 1 and 1 Lamp (Label 3) on Branch 2
• Ammeter measuring Lamp 3
• Voltmeter measuring Lamp 2 (Indicate how much voltage will lamp 2 have)

5. The diagram shows a parallel circuit. All the bulbs have the same resistance.

(i) Which bulb will shine the brightest?

(ii) What would happen to the brightnes of lamp B if lamp C is removed?

(iii) Does lamp B and lamp D have the same voltage?

(iv) Would Lamp C and Lamp D have the same current passing through them?

(v) If the cell in the circuit was 6V, how much energy would each Coulomb be carrying?

(vi) If the cell voltage is 6V, state the voltage in B, C and D if lamp A is not part of the
circuit.

(vii) What would happen to the brightness of A if lamp D broke?

(viii) Would the current passing through the Lamp A and C be the same if the Lamp D
broke?

(ix) If we replace the 6V cell with 9V battery, which changes would you notice if the
lamp D remain broke?
6. The drawing shows a plug. Label the parts of the plug.

7. We use fuse as a way of safety while handling electrical appliances and electricity in general.
Explain how fuse works.

8. Fuses are usually manufactured in 4 different ratings. 3A, 5A, 10A, 13A.
If the electric toy require a current of 7A to operate, which fuse rating would you choose to
make sure electrical hazard does not happen?

9. State a few ways people can reduce risks of getting hurt by electricity.

10. State the reasons why the cables are usually colour coded in the plug as shown above?

11. What could happen to the wire if the current becomes too high?

12. What bodily harm can electricity afflict you?
