National TechOps Installation Guidance
• AP coverage is approximately 2500 sq. ft.
• WiFi Pro works with both the CBR and BWG.
• WiFi Pro installations can be completed at any time of day.
• Follow local policy as it relates to utilizing POE switches for installation.
• Standard installation procedure is to install the AP in an open area and/or on the ceiling to enable the best WiFi
coverage.
• Comcast provides the CAT5 cable to run from the modem to the access point.
• Comcast will run the CAT5 from the modem to the access point provided that access, aesthetic, and distance
requirements are met.
• The maximum CAT5 run from the modem to the access point is 300 ft.
• The limit on the ceiling height for device placement is generally a 20’ max. However, in most cases anything that has to
be run through interior ceiling more than 10’ high needs a scissor lift. Published guidance is that wiring locations must be
accessible with an 8’ step ladder or 28’ extension ladder (typically exterior walls only, this won’t work to get across a 20’
ceiling through the middle of a warehouse).

Troubleshooting
Three common problem areas:
• Internet Connectivity
- Follow standard connectivity troubleshooting steps and verify the Comcast network and BWG/CBR are working.

• Access Point
- The AP status can be determined by the LEDs on the device.
- If BWG/CBR has connectivity but the AP isn’t broadcasting check the connections, check power and replace the device if
necessary. The settings are cloud-based and will automatically download to the new device.
- The AP is a ‘dumb’ device that doesn’t need to be configured in the biller.

• Enhanced Features
- Enhanced feature issues can be managed with the WiFi Pro Portal

WiFi.

multitude of features and benefits for the customer including remote configuration, bandwidth allocation, and several marketing and

Common Myths About WiFi Pro

- FALSE. WiFi Pro works when the Access Point is connected downstream of the Connection Pro hardware and power is maintained to
the device. Customers should remember that the maximum available connection in backup mode is 10Mbps/1Mbps and should plan

critical applications, but high consuming Private and Guest WiFi applications may be impacted.

• WiFi Pro allows customers to kick specific people off their WiFi.

- FALSE. WiFi Pro allows customer to schedule when their WiFi will broadcast and limit the amount of time customers can spend on the
network, but it cannot target individual users.

• Customers don’t need WiFi Pro if they have standard WiFi.

- FALSE. One huge advantage to WiFi Pro is the ability to centrally locate the AP for best coverage and multiple APs to support larger
locations. Additionally, customers have access to advanced features and functionality with WiFi Pro that they will not have with
standard WiFi.

• If a customer has SecurityEdge, WiFi pro will not work.

- FALSE. WiFi Pro will work with SecurityEdge. However, if a customer has both products, content filtering of SecurityEdge will take
precedence over WiFi Pro policies.
