The focus is

the place inside Earth's crust where an earthquake originates. The point on the Earth's
surface directly above the focus is the epicenter. When energy is released at the focus, seismic waves
travel outward from that point in all directions.

Glossary. Epicenter. The point on the Earth's surface directly above the focus or hypocenter of an
earthquake (the point within the Earth where the earthquake originated).

What is an earthquake? An earthquake is a weak to violent shaking of the ground produced by the
sudden movement of rock materials below the earth's surface. The earthquakes originate in tectonic
plate boundary. An earthquake is what happens when two blocks of the earth suddenly slip past one
another. The surface where they slip is called the fault or fault plane.

A fault is a fracture or zone of fractures between two blocks of rock. Faults allow the blocks to move
relative to each other. This movement may occur rapidly, in the form of an earthquake - or may occur
slowly, in the form of creep.

Meteoroids are objects in space that range in size from dust grains to small asteroids. Think of them as
“space rocks." When meteoroids enter Earth's atmosphere (or that of another planet, like Mars) at high
speed and burn up, the fireballs or “shooting stars” are called meteors.

meteoroid survives a trip through the atmosphere and hits the ground, it's called a meteorit

Asteroids are small, rocky objects that orbit the Sun. Although asteroids orbit the Sun like planets, they
are much smaller than planets. Asteroids are small, rocky objects that orbit the sun.

The phenomenon we call tsunami is a series of large waves of extremely long wavelength and period
usually generated by a violent, impulsive undersea disturbance or activity near the coast or in the
ocean.

A tidal wave is a shallow water wave caused by the gravitational interactions between the Sun, Moon,
and Earth ("tidal wave" was used in earlier times to describe what we now call a tsunami.)

Typhoon is defined as a tropical cyclone with the maximum wind of 34 knots or higher. A tropical
cyclone with the maximum wind of less than 34 knots is called a tropical depression. Difference between
two types of tropical cyclones are just if the maximum wind is less than or above the threshold of 34
knots Tropical cyclones, also known as typhoons or hurricanes, are among the most destructive weather
phenomena. They are intense circular storms that originate over warm tropical oceans, and have
maximum sustained wind speeds exceeding 119 kilometres per hour and heavy rains..
