Demonstration Plan in Mathematics 5

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:
a. find the area of a given circle,
b. recognize the value of hard work at all times, and
c. solve routine and non-routine problems involving the area of the
circle.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Finding the area of a circle
References: 21st Century Mathematics pp. 302-308
Materials: Pictures/ Visual Aids, Laptop
Values Integration: Perseverance and Hard work

III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity

A. Preliminary activities

1. Drill/ Guessing Game

Think of a number from 1-9. Add
two to the number you are
thinking , then multiply it by 3.

Now tell me the result then I will

tell the number that you were 12.
thinking a while ago.

The number that you were

thinking is 2, am I correct? Yes sir.

Next, what is your answer? 24.

You were thinking the number 6, Yes, it is number 6 sir.

isn’t it?

Are you amazed by our game

class? Yes sir.

Very good!

2. Review
Last time we learn how to solve for
the circumference of a circle.
Again what is the formula in C = 𝜋d if the diameter is given and C

circle?

Excellent!

B. Lesson Proper
1. Motivation

(Post a picture of a farm.)

What do you see in the picture? That is a farm.
Correct!

What do you call a person that works

on a farm? A farmer.

Give some examples of plants that a

farmer plants in a farm. Rice, corn, peanut etc.

Let us read the problem about these

pictures.

Mang Tonying has a circular plot of

land. He plans to plant tomatoes and
eggplants. From the center, it
measures 10m to any border of the
plot. What is the area of the land?

Who is the farmer?

The farmer is Mang Tonying.
What is he planning to plant in his
farm? He plans to plant
tomatoes and eggplants.
What kind of farmer is Mang
Tonying? Hard working

Correct! They are persevering. A

person is persevering when he works
hard even when though they are
facing some challenges. We should be
a person with perseverance like the
farmers. Yes, sir!

Now, what is the distance from the

center of the plot to the border? It measures 10m.

What is being asked in the problem?

What is the area of the land?
Exactly. Do you know what is the
area of the farm of Mang Tonying? No, sir.
2. Presentation of the Lesson

Today, we are going to learn about

the area of a circle.
3. Development of the Lesson
a. See
Let us discuss how to find the area of
a circle.
In finding the area of the circle, we
need the radius of the circle.

What is the radius in the problem?

The radius is 10m.
In finding the area of a circle, we have
to use this formula:
𝐴=𝜋r2

“A” stands for the area of the circle. π

is the pi. Its value is 3.14. “r” stands
for the radius of the circle. The
exponent “2” means that you have to
multiply the radius to itself.

Let us solve the problem.

A = 3.14 * (10 m)2
A = 3.14 * 100 m2
A = 314 m2
What is the area of the circle?
The area of the circle is 314 m2.
Correct! Always remember that the
unit of measurement is also squared
in finding the area.

Let us have another problem.

b. Think
Tita Lucing is making a circular biko.
The diameter measures 100
centimeters. What is its area?

What is the radius of the circle?

Correct. The radius is 50 cm, because its
diameter measures 100 cm.
Let us solve the problem.
A = 3.14 * (50cm)2
A = 3.14 * 2500cm2
A = 7,850 cm2
What is the area of the circular biko?
The area is 7,850 cm2.

for his chickens. From the center of 0.1256 km2
the land, it measures 0.20 km to the
border. What is the area?
