LESSON 1:
Prepare the Necessary Tools and Equipment for
Manicure and Pedicure
 LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the 60-minute lesson, the grade 8
students will be able to:
 Identify the nail care tools and materials.
 State the importance of knowing tools and materials in
Nail Care Services.
 Perform the different tasks using their knowledge in
Nail Care Services.

 Nail File

It is used to shape the free edges of a nail.

In using the nail file, you must hold the file firmly in
the right or left hand with the thumb underneath it
for support and other four fingers on its upper
surface.
 Nail Cutter

It is made of metal and is used to cut fingernails and toenails.

 In using nail cutter, you must hold clippers with
cutting edges downward between thumb, index and
middle finger, press clipper handles by squeezing
them together and remove excess nail length.
 Cuticle Nail Pusher

Cuticle Nail Pusher is a tool used to push back and loosen the
cuticles.
The dull spade side of this tool is used to push back
and loosen the cuticles. Keep cuticles moist using
the cuticle remover while working. Use the cuticle
pusher in a flat position to remove dead cuticle
adhering to the nail without scratching the nail
plate.
 Nail Brush

It is used to clean dirt and cosmetic residue from the nail surface and
skin
 All you need is to insert the ring finger and
pinky in the nail brush handle and brush the
nails with a downward motion from the base
to the fingertips to clean the nails and fingers.
Cuticle Nipper

It helps cut the cuticle.

Pick up the cuticle nipper b the handles and turn the cutting edges
towards you; place the bent tip of the index finger over the top
of the shank. Place the thumb on the side of the handle and
the remaining fingers over the opposite handle. Now let’s
discuss the materials used in the nail care services.
The materials of a nail care set refer to the
cosmetics and supplies that are consumed and
should be replaced from time to time.
 Cotton

It is a soft white downy fiber for dubbing or cleaning the nails.

 Alcohol

It is used for sanitation.

 Cuticle Remover

It is used to soften nail cuticles and prepare them to be cut.

 Nail Polish

It is used to color and decorate fingernails and toenails.

 Top Coat

It is used after applying a nail polish and is also used for high
gloss and help protect the nails.
 Nail Polish Remover

It helps remove old nail polish with a cotton.

 Base Coat

It is applied to a nail plate before applying in a nail polish. It is

used to smoothen the nail plate for color and promote
healthier nails.
• Now, we will have a game. I prepared a Beauty box
and music. When I play the music, you need to shout
first the phrase “IPASA MO ANG BEAUTY KO”
before you pass the beauty box to your seatmate. If
the music stopped, the one who holds the Beauty box
will get a question inside. After you get it, kindly give

We will have another group activity. The
Group 1 will make a role play showing
how to promote those implements,
equipment, materials, and cosmetics in
manicuring. The goal of the Group 1 is to
get the attention and interest of your
costumers to buy your products. Did you

•The Group 2 will make a
jingle about the uses of the
different Tools and Materials
in manicuring. The jingle
must consist of two stanzas.

Then, the Group 3 will write a
reflection paper about the
cosmetic which is the nail
cutter. The challenge is that you
need to relate the nail cutter
into your life or even love life.
