Impact United Nations for Indonesia

When I first studied the pharmaceutical major, I was sure that I must have an
impact on the public. A significant turning point in why I have to contribute to
society is because people around me still don't realize the importance of
understanding the use of over-the-counter drugs. From this problem, I have now
refined my life purpose and question myself: how do I contribute and have an
impact to help change the world especially with my educational background?

My journey started with me getting to know the United Nations. It started with me
finding out about the programs carried out by the United Nations to contribute to
Indonesia. The United Nations is an organization that is committed to working
with the Indonesian government to build a prosperous, democratic, and fair
Indonesian nation. The United Nations has a goal to fight discrimination and can
be helpful to everyone. Some of the programs that I think have an impact in
Indonesia are programs related to health, education, and the environment.
Although I did not feel the impact directly, I can see the program can be useful for
many people. All United Nations programs have had many impacts on Indonesia,
some of the programs that I will describe are programs that I think are very
beneficial for many people.

Desi Tritania, a young mother dreams of a better life for her family, but that hope
begins to dim when she sees her daughter, Naura, grow thin and fall ill. Two
months ago, the cheerful girl had almost no access to the free posyandu so she
was forced to skip basic immunizations. The United Nations also actively helps
cadres in the village so that Naura can still participate in immunization sessions.
So that Naura can live her life actively and cheerfully to pursue her goals.

There is also a concern in Lombok, after an earthquake in 2018 resulted in the

closure of most health facilities. Those affected include people living with HIV.
They cannot access HIV treatment. Having a close collaboration with Yayasan
InSET to takes on a role in providing antiretroviral therapy to people in need. The
United Nations has a lot of impact on the health sector in Indonesia. One of the
impacts for me as a health worker, I must be responsive and aware of the
importance of health conditions in the surrounding environment so healthy and
strong immune society can be realized.

Sixty million Indonesian children are experiencing a learning crisis due to the
COVID-19 pandemic, missed lessons, and loss of basic skills experienced by
many students in Indonesia. Many children are vulnerable to falling behind in
learning and dropping out of school due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The number
of collaborations from various parties, one of which is the United Nations,
continues to strive so that every child can take education according to their
interests because education is the right of every child. This has a lot of impact on
the nation's children, one of which is the nation's children can become the next
generation of intelligent and educated. The impact that I can feel in the field of
education with the program conducted by the United Nations is that I am
motivated to educate children around my environment about personal hygiene by
the fields that I learned during college.

Sri Meylani elementary school students from Gorontalo, have a simple dream to
see the river in her village is not contaminated with mercury back. The river in the
area is polluted so that it cannot be a place to live for marine animals such as fish,
then the surrounding community is also attacked by many diseases due to the
contamination of the river. The United Nations actively helps educate and raise
awareness of environmental improvement. The United Nations is also
implementing the Sustainable Development Goals program in environment
improvement and climate change.

Environmental problems also occur in Kalimantan, a peatlands burn. Over 700

blazes were detected and caused fog that enveloped the village, drying the soil and
difficult to extinguish. This also makes it difficult for farmers to earn a living. In
2015 fires exposed as many as 43 million people to hazardous smog, 100,000
people died, and people suffered financial losses of 1.9% of the products grown.
The United Nations also contributes to planting trees and creating peat dams so
that it can restore moisture to peatlands. this also had a great impact on me
because by knowing the programs I was motivated that the awareness of loving
the environment starts from myself and can start from the smallest thing around
us.

All of the United Nations programs in health, education and the environment have
had a huge impact on me, by reading and knowing the program, I was motivated
to educate the surrounding community about how to use good medicine, personal
hygiene and the environment during a pandemic. Currently I was graduated from
the Department of Pharmacy, I hope I can contribute more to the change of the
Indonesian nation for the better. I once hear a quote that says "What we do here
changes the whole world". So, I want to be able to contribute in the slightest way
to change the world for the better. Together we have the power to create a more
peaceful and prosperous future.
