1. Determine the no. of 5-digit numbers can be formed using the digits 1,2,3, 4 and 5
without repetition of the digits?
2. A set has 5 distinct elements and set B has 8 elements. How many functions and
injections from A to B possible?
3. How many ways are there to distribute 5 cards to each of four players from the standard
deck 52 cards?
4. The probability that the student P fails in an examination is 0.25 and the probability that
the student Q fails in the same examination is 0.3. Determine the probability that either
P or Q fails in the examination.
5. Three vendors are asked to supply a very high precision component. The respective
probabilities of their meeting the strick design specifications are 0.8, 0.7 and 0.5 Each
vendor supplies one component .Determine the probability out of total three
components supplied by the vendors at least one will meet the design specifications .
6. A small town has one fire engine and one ambulance available for emergencies. The
probability that the fire engine is available when needed is 0.98, and the probability that
the ambulance is available when called is 0.92. In the event of an injury resulting from
a burning building, Determine the probability that i) both the ambulance and the fire
engine will be available. ii) Ambulance or fire engine available.
7. Ramu can solve 90% problems given a book and Somu can solve 75%. Obtain the
probability that at least one of them will solve a problem selected at random from the
book.
8. A problem is given to three persons P, Q, R whose respective chances of solving it are 2/7, 4/7,
4/9 respectively. What is the probability that the problem is solved?
9. An experiment is conducted to investigate variation of solubility of chemical X in
water. The quantities in Kg. that dissolved in one liter of water at various
temperatures are shown in the following table:
