An Ethical Dilemma: Your Best Friend's Wedding


You are at your best friend’s wedding just an hour before the ceremony is to start. Earlier that
day, you came across definitive proof that your best friend’s spouse-to-be is having an affair with
the best man/maid of honor, and you catch them sneaking out of a room together looking
disheveled. If you tell your friend about the affair, their day will be ruined, but you don’t want
them to marry a cheater. What do you do?

Tutorial 2: Topic 2 - Ethical Perspectives and Traditions

QUESTION: Assess the action of the practitioner and brand in the above situation to be either
ethical or unethical based on the theories below. Then, discuss the impact developing
inappropriate content towards practitioner and brand.

a) Categorical Imperative- understand your action, action matters in this theory, if using
ethical way, results will be good (not hurt other people, not to lie beneficial to all
parties).
b) Utilitarianism- focus on results, as long as result could satisfied all people, people
will buy products, brand will get recognition, identify how many parties in the
situation, consider majority parties
c) Golden Means -derives good characters, action too extreme (too much) or mild
extreme, no action (too less), parties should receive good result, be creative to use this
theory
d) Social Contract – based on society agreement, it only changes when society change
e) Egalitarianism – equal decision, need to think about justice
f) Veil of Ignorance – (the most complicated theory) find one personal interests,
motivation to win, manipulate people to think they are right, remove all personal
needs, view that particular people on they beneficial to parties

Golden Means, although from the brand perspective is to promote the brand but people attention
was grabbed by the soft toy that having spiky leather bracelets around the bear's arms and legs,
the soft toy contained a chain and padlock around its neck. Then people attack the Balenciaga

like overpriced rubbish. The first eye when looking into the ad like I don’t know this is the ad
trying to promote Balenciaga, so in order to achieve balance maybe can remove the spooky
things and add more iconic things about Balenciaga.
Promoting too much sexual things, promote too less brand recognition

QUESTION: Using an ethical model of decision-making and relevant industrial code of ethics
discuss Samsung Night Owls ad, which was promoting the Galaxy Watch4, Galaxy Buds 2 and

streets and alleyways. Then, discuss the impact developing inappropriate content towards

and traitor. The possible legal violation is sedition, statement more racist and taunting
government.
